I found this jacket on sale and was attracted at how light it weighed and yet had a very substantial material. It is rugged and the inner fleece which covers the upper body ( not sleeves) feels so soft and luxurious. The sleeves are lined with taffeta and I was concerned that it would not be warm in real cold weather. My arms felt the chill when I wore it without a layer at temperatures below 55. I found if I layered with a long sleeve t shirt combined with a lightweight merino wool hoodie it was fabulously warm and comfortable. It breathes nice and keeps the wind and chill out. The rain just beads and does not penetrate the fabric. Dries instantly. These layers provided warmth and never impaired movement nor made the jacket feel constricted or bulky. The jacket has a slim look but is not so tight fitted. This jacket could be worn in real cold temperatures if paired with the Northface Windwall 2 with hood. The Windwall is still thin enough to wear under, but It provides lots of body warmth and comfort with the fleece hood. The hood on the Glacier is not lined with fleece. It is okay in less cold weather. But for comfort in real cold weather you need a wool cap or a fleece hood like on the Windwall. I wore the Glacier without layers and felt perfect in temperatures of 60 to low 70's. I had my doubts initially about this jacket because there was no fleece in the arms. But I now understand that it is a versatile jacket that has multi uses. It can be worn simple and light, or combined with layers for extreme weather. I am glad I bought this jacket. It is light, high quality, and breathable, but very rugged. It looks like it will last. This may become my favorite jacket. I hope REI continues to make this jacket. It is wonderful. And it looks like I am the first person to review this jacket!
