    It may look plausible within it's original packaging, but once in hand the inferior quality and design is evident to all.

    First of all, the design is meant to fool you into thinking that the bezel can move in relation to the baseplate in order to adjust for declination; hence the graduated scale of degrees printed along the perimiter of the bezel. Indeed this is just a trick; thanks a lot Brunton.

    Secondly, the "locker" or compartment within the cheap plastic body of the compass is no where near waterproof and I think it's a huge marketing stretch to call it water resistant. You have about a 50/50 chance of the contents staying dry if a single water droplet should hit the compass. In even the slightest drizzle, forget it; you can see through the closed compartment at both the bottom and top, as well as the sides of the lid. I was expecting rubber gaskets and such but they didn't even try for a tight fitment.

    Third, the white field underneath the needle is actually a piece of paper within the "locker". This is sure to stain and warp in the presence of the slightest moisture or even high humidity as it appears to be just untreated paper. Sure, you could laminate it, but why didn't Brunton do this?

    This is such a shamefully desiged, produced, and marketed item that I lost all respect for Brunton and will never buy another of their products again. Stick with Suunto or virtually anyone else.
