Comments about Mountain Hardwear Fluid 26 Pack - 2011 Closeout:
First, I have hunted high and low for the "perfect" day pack. Something less than 2000 CI. I've tried them all! I happened on to the M.H. Fluid series and thought I'd try this one as well.
Pro- this pack layout is about the best I have found. The pocket design is about perfect. It is lightweight, materials are standard to what all the major pack makers are using. Pockets range from large to small.
The hydration pocket is open, meaning no zippers to deal with and the hydration is on the outside of the pack not on the inside taking up gear space.
The cons- The hip belt is about useless. The hip belt pockets are useless. The pockets, you might be able to stick a pack of gum in them and thats about it. The pockets sit way in the back of the belt.
The belt itself is nothing more than a narrow nylon strap with a small buckle that appears to be lightweight enough to break after a few uses.
The overall pack size. if your 6 foot or near 6 foot, look for something else. This pack appears to be desgined for someone shorter.
While I loved the overall layout and design, the belt and belt pockets had me looking elsewhere again. I sent this one back.
I would recommend it given the parameters mentioned.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Fluid 26 Pack - 2011 Closeout:
I really like the pack for day hikes. It does have a lot of pockets. The challenge is that the pack is so skinny and deep that it is a little challenging to load anything bulky like a coat.

This is a great pack. I thought 26 liters may be a little too small for multi-day trips but when your as ultra-light as i am i could easily live out of this thing for a week. Great features, comfortable, props to MHW on the suspension system.
P.S. More props to REI for shipping so fast!
