Comments about Mountain Hardwear Scrambler 30 Pack - 2011 Closeout:
I was able to fit enough clothes for a 9-day trip to Costa Rica, including an extra pair of sandles and a thin towel. The top compartment even has enough room to hold a small netbook, digital camera, chargers, and cords.
I probably wouldn't use it for rough back-packing, as the material is quite thin, though well made... but as a travel pack, I was surprised at how much I was able to fit. It's going to be my go-to bag from now on!

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Scrambler 30 Pack - 2011 Closeout:
A very good summit pack that is highly versatile and extremely lightweight. I have been using it for travel across the USA and Europe. About 22 days into my travel this pack is holding up wonderfully and this is all I need. I am a minimalist and travel is like a breeze with the comfort of light loads. When I am at a destination, this pack doubles as a day pack or a perfect grocery pack. The fabric and double stitching are very strong for a bag this lightweight. The top compartment is big and carries lot of stuff. Weight comfort limit is 15 lbs. although I have used it for carrying up to 20 lbs. Just don't put high density and pointed things such as books in this pack since the material might not withstand a high mass to volume ratio. So I would NOT use it as a school bag. For a price of less than forty bucks, I think it was a good deal. The only con I see in this pack is the lack of external side mesh pockets for carrying a water bottle and some accessories. The back padding is good too. I found the plastic support useless and removed it to reduce the weight of the pack by 2 ounces. The space gained by removing the plastic support could also be used to stow the hydration bladder. Happy travels :)

My second use of it, the fabric ripped under the side compression straps. It was a small rip so I kept using it. Now, about a month in the top compartment has ripped from the seams.
Too bad, I like the fit, style and size but it just doesn't hold up.

Got this pack for climbing. Used it on a week long trip to South Dakota and Wy. Mostly used to transport climbing gear was surprised when I could fit all my climbing gear standard rack and shoes clipped to outside on or in this pack it was awesome! Hip belt sucks but i never use it.

This is a new pack, but I have used it to commute with and for trail hikes. I really love the lightness and the fact that it is a top-loader (no zipper for main compartment). The cord lock arrangement is designed to be used with one hand, which makes getting in and getting stuff out of the pack a breeze. The 1" wide waist belt is perfectly adequate and totally functional, without adding unnecessary weight. Sternum strap, likewise.
One thing I really like about this pack is that it has two compression straps per side, unlike some packs costing twice as much. This enables me to use them to lash on a one person tent on one side and the fly and poles on the other. Therefore, the pack can be used for weekenders.
The large, top map pocket is 9" deep and 10" wide.
I love the light weight.
