Comments about Mountain Hardwear Sentinel Jr. DSE Laptop Messenger Bag - 2010 Closeout:
Use it every day. Holds up well to abuse, sheds light mud, dirt -- keeps out rain well. Strap stretches and might be too long if you are under 5'10". The under arm strap works well to stabilize the bag from side to side, but not up and down -- so you can't really jump around too much. I carry a change of clothes and an iPad for a 20 minute commute on rutted roads in the South Pacific. Buy it, haven't found anything better.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Sentinel Jr. DSE Laptop Messenger Bag - 2010 Closeout:
I ride a road/race bike to work everyday, about 20 miles round trip, and this bag is very secure and doesnt move much while riding. The underarm strap is so convenient and well designed! There is a nice carrying handle on the outside and one on the inside if you had the main zippered pocket open and needed to pick it up. There is a pen, card, wallet and ID organizer on the front when you open it. The laptop pocket is very well padded and i feel secure having my ipad in it. The bottom is sort of expandable and can be cinched down for when you are on the go. The only down fall i have seen so far is the phone pocket in front is just a wee bit small for my Iphone4 (in case) but its never even budged so im not too worried.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Sentinel Jr. DSE Laptop Messenger Bag - 2010 Closeout:
It's times like these that I lament no longer living near an REI store. When I need something, I have to order more than one item and try them out to decide, then ship back the rejects.
This bag is typical Mountain Hardwear quality: excellent. Everything seems sturdy, even the zippers and especially the stitching. I have no doubt this bag would last a long time.
Two things I don't like:
1) The shoulder strap. It feels fine today, but the padding isn't any thicker than the $40 daypack I checked out at another place last week, and I have a sinking feeling it won't be comfortable about a year from now.
2) The cell phone pocket. REI says it is "sized for today's wide phones," but I think they must have written that five years ago. You can fit your tiny 2007 flip phone in there, but don't even think about trying to squeeze an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy (or any other touch screen smartphone manufactured in the last couple of years) in there. Not gonna happen.
Those two "cons" notwithstanding, I'd still rather own this bag than the $40 daypack. It's better quality, it looks better, and it's more versatile. It's just not a good bag for my purposes.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Sentinel Jr. DSE Laptop Messenger Bag - 2010 Closeout:
Great bag for the price. I had hoped it was a little bit wider. But for everyday commuting and short business trips it is very good. Unlike other messenger bags I looked at, this one could be sealed with zipper so nothing can slide out while on floor of airplane, etc.
