Comments about Ortlieb City Biker QL3 Single Pannier:

This seems very well made, wears very comfortably off the bike and the QL3 system is brilliant, however it's just not big enough to suit my needs.

The description was very literal when it said "a laptop and a few files"... with my 13" laptop and power supply there was only enough room left for a standard office portfolio (about 3/4" thick) and my lock. No chance of getting a pair of gym shorts or a lunch in there too.

For a very light commuter this would be a most excellent bag. I, however, will likely look towards Ortleib's QL3 Downtown bag for a little extra space.

Comments about Ortlieb City Biker QL3 Single Pannier:

As a 12 mo/yr. commuter this is the best option I found for a TopPeak RX rack with a 15 pound weight limit. It is easy to use, snaps on and off the rails quickly and is big enough for 15" packing cases for clothes. These are much more durable than most panniers and are really waterproof, not merely water resistant. Also, you can adjust the attachment points to rake the bag aft to avoid pedaling obstruction.

I've been using them as laptop cases for travel as well -- they can hold a laptop, book and Bose headset and still fit under the seat of a commuter plane. The only downside is that they can't be locked.

Before I got the hang of riding with them they had a tendency to swing if I threw the bike around going uphill, and they'll fly off if you don't clip them on right. Also the rails of my rack chafed the bags slightly before I wrapped the rails in duct tape.

Still, these have been a major improvement to my commute and I'd buy them again!
