The cable is the weakness

While I've had this setup for at least 6 years, the cable proved to be the weakness... My TREK mountain bike was stolen from outside my workplace on Broadway and Bleeker in Manhattan on 10/25/14. The cable was cut, and the individual just lifted the bike up and walked away. Manhattan being what it is, ensured that no one thought this was unusual... When I can afford another bike, I'll still buy a Kryptonite lock... It'll just be 2 U-locks. And a LoJack system. Please note, my recommendation of Kryptonite locks only pertains to the chain or the U-lock.

Great lock in the right situation.

The lock: Very secure. The guarantee covers the value of my ride. Smoother key action (lock/unlock) than a similarly priced competitor sold at REI. The krypto I am replacing (lost the keys in a move) kept my bike where I left it in Baltimore, over the better part of a decade without fail. I never left the bike unattended for more than 8-10 hours at a time, and it slept inside. (If the bike was going to sleep on the street, I'd upgrade to the NYC model.) The cable: Nice to attach to other bikes, or to attach your saddle/front wheel to the lock. The cable should NEVER be trusted to secure the bike itself, as it can easily be cut w/ bolt cutters. I lost a bike this way when I stopped at my bank (15-20 minutes).

Great deterrent.

I use this for my hybrid bike for occasional rides around the city near my home. The mount for the u-lock was a bit tricky trying to find a place it would fit on the frame with the u-lock in it. It ended up on the shaft for the seat post with the lock sitting along the left side of the rear wheel. The end sticks out a little bit, but is still flat enough that my foot doesn't hit it when pedaling. The cable has a velcro strap that's long enough to wrap it around your handlebar when riding. Overall, this is a great deterrent. There is no evidence that anyone has ever tried to steal my bike. However, my bike wasn't expensive/fancy, I only lock it up in well-lit public areas, and I never leave it overnight. If you don't fall under those conditions, I'd get 2 u-locks instead because the steel cable won't help against thieves with bolt cutters. I really wish a lock manufacturer would make a 2 u-lock set with both locks using the same key. I couldn't find 2 u-locks keyed the same which is why I bought this one. In addition, it comes in handy on my RV to keep anyone from trying to steal my propane bottles. I can lock them to the hitch.

Great lock w/ Flex Frame Bracket

I use this on a 700c Xtracycle (long tail). The 4 ft flex cable is just long enough to loop through my rear tire (on an Xtracycle the rear wheel is back 15" further than most bikes), wienough length to get it to the U Lock which i usually have securing my front wheel through the downtube, and to some stationary pole or other secure object. If I'm only running in and out of a place, and it's a generally safe neighborhood, i'll usually just use the U lock on the frame and to an object. But if i'm unsure, i'll make sure to secure both wheels as well. Kryptonite uses two kinds of brackets. The flex frame bracket is much more versatile, and i recommend it. I've mounted it to seat stays, pannier racks, and it is very solid. I love this lock. It gives me peace of mind when I make a 2AM grocery run in a bad neighborhood, or if I've got to leave my bike parked overnight downtown at my place of employment. With my old cable/combination lock , I'd constantly want to check on my bike as I knew it wasn't nearly as secure. With this lock, I no longer do that.

Great everyday security in city & suburb

This is my everyday security while city and suburban biking. I would get two for over-night security. Kryptonite rates this lock & cable combo a 6 on their 10 point system. Look on Youtube for easy and proper clamp installation. Remember to register your key on Kryponite's website for free replacement if lost.

Hasn't Failed Me

I use this lock daily to secure my bike in a big city with high theft risk and it hasn't failed me. I especially appreciate the mounting options flexibility so I can mount it out of the way were I have room.

Works as designed.

I bought this for my son and it is exactly what he needs for his bike at college. It is not an expensive bike, but still warrants a quality lock. I read the reviews before purchasing and have no regrets with the purchase price, quality of the product, or installation of the lock. It is just what was needed and was easy and flexible to install.

U-lock safe

overall i feel safe with this on my bike and new tires. with the included hardware it is also easy to carry around on the bike frame. the only challenge sometimes is finding a fixed object that it can fit around. only time will tell if the bike stays or goes to the seedy underworld of bike theft like so many others. pleased so far!

Working As Desired

I bought this as I needed a good lock for when I leave my bike at the train station. This lock appears to be providing the security I need. I think the only downside is the weight of the product as it does add weight to the overall bike. However - I suspect this is also going to provide the deterrence I was seeking.
