by Paddling JonathanfromPerfect for the jobI bought this product after estimating the size I'd need for the cycle racks I frequent most often; at work, at the local shops. The bracket is not necessary if you don't have some sort of bag to carry it in because it remains out of the way if you store it on top of a puncture repair kit bag that attaches under your saddle. You simply position the body of the lock under the saddle frame but on top of the repair bag that attaches under your saddle, and put the head of the 'loop' around the front of your seat post... hey-presto... no need for extra weight of the bracket or backpack if your just cycling down to the shop. Or, you can install the bracket, either way, it's small light and just as strong as the bigger, more cumbersome model.

by db3fromGood CompromiseI've been doing more errands and shopping on my various bikes, and usually only need to lock up the bike for a short period of time while I'm shopping, getting coffee, or at the gym. Typically I would use a Kabletek flexweave cable and a combo lock, which I know is not very secure, but better than nothing. I finally decided to upgrade to something more secure, but not needing a 'New York' level of security, I looked for something convenient to carry and use. While my BART folder has a pannier, I needed a lock that was easily carried and secure when using my other bikes; the Mini-5 is a good compromise. It fits perfectly into my Chrome Chekhov bag, although removing the FlexFrame mounting piece makes it much easier to get in and out of the storage pocket. Not a big loss for me, as I discovered the typical mounting locations, the frame and seat post already in use on my road bike.

by EtotheKfromSecurity Guard safe!!My lady friend and I locked our bikes independent of each other, and unbeknownst that we had locked them in a no bike storage area (? _ _ _, right!?) The local Security Guards came to remove our bikes. Her cheaper Gray Kryptonite KryptoLok Series-2 Mini-7 U-Lock was cut in half, and her bike was gone when we got back. My heavier duty more expensive Kryptonite Evolution Mini-5 U-Lock had marks on it where somebody tried to cut it, but couldn't get through!!! I was amazed; she was crying! Don't worry the guards gave her bike back, but they said they couldn't cut my lock!! If you buy a Kryptonite lock, buy the Orange or Yellow styles they are much heavier duty and worth the $$$. Plus, if you lose the key they will rekey for $20 plus shipping!!!! Thank you Kryptonite!!
