    Novara Big Buzz Bike - 2014is rated4.3846out of5by13.
Rated4out of5byfromGreat bikeThis is a terrific bike. I use it for commuting to and from work in the northwest. This is the perfect bike for the rainy climate here. The disc brakes provide excellent stopping power in wet conditions. The 700c x 32 tires provide a nice combination of grip on wet conditions and low rolling resistance like a thinner road tire. This bike is the perfect combination of speed and comfort. The SRAM components provide crisp shifting as well. My only gripe with this bike is it doesn't come with fenders. I've seen cheaper bikes at REI in this category have fenders included. This bike will also serve as my rainy/messy weather recreational bike for weekends. Great bike but I can't give it 5 stars without having fenders included. I'd still recommend this bike to a friend though.

Rated4out of5byfromNice Bike...butThis bike is nice, strong and the brakes are fantastic. The bike is fast and smooth. I commute or ride 300+ days a year and so the bike I use takes a beating of about 10-12K miles per year. This is my first Novara, so I will see how it holds up compared to the numerous other high-end bikes that start with the letter "C" that I've worn out over the years. I found the grips to be unappealing (white = dirt) and uncomfortable and so those were replaced immediately. I had to get used to the shifters as they are a little odd in that the only motions are down motions. If you put fenders on your bike, take into account the disk brakes. They add some width and you will have to work to get everything to fit and adjust properly. The only real negative I saw with this bike were the tires. Even though they were billed as a high quality tires with puncture resistance, the first day a flat with only 23 miles on the bike and the second flat at 38 miles. I don't know why they bother to put those tires on or sell a high end bike with tires that are not durable, especially a commuter bike that is known to run through highway and urban debris. Take those tires off and put on something bullet proof, like Schwalbe Marathons right away or other brands.

Rated4out of5byfromFirst bike in 20 yearsI haven't ridden or owned a bike since I was a kid, and my experience was solely with MTB. I recently developed some pain in my knees from running and decided to switch to cycling. The only thing I had to compare this two is a 20 year old 7000 series Trek, which doesn't even come close to this bike! For someone who hasn't ridden a bike in 20 years, I've put 110 miles and 9 hours on this within the first 30 days. I use it for exercise, mainly on the road or bike paths around where i live, but also plan to use it on trails. It is a reliable machine. Everything about this bike is good quality and comparable to pricier bikes made by other companies. Two things I've encountered so far, one being a problem that I'm sure the bike shop can take care of easily. First, the front derailleur won't shift from third to second. I have to go from third to first, then to second, which is not too nice a feeling when I'm climbing a hill. I haven't brought the bike in for its after break in tune up, so I'm sure it will be addressed at that time. The other is the saddle, and it's not so big a deal that I would even call it a real problem. It's very comfortable, for a short distance. After an hour or so, it starts buggin me. This is just my opinion, so take it as you will. I like the saddle, and I'm not going to replace it. I attribute most of this gripe to not enough time in the saddle to get used to it, so I'm sure this will go away over time. Overall, this bike is awesome! It's fast, versatile (thanks to 27 gears) durable (I have beaten on it up and down curbs and over potholes many times, with no issues), and the brakes are perfect and adjustable (I've had several close calls with cars and am able to stop short even on a decline in 27th gear). Hope this is helpful!

Rated4out of5byfromNice rideAfter a lot of research into a lightweight commuter bike that can perform on the open road, had disc brakes, looked cool, and was under $1,000, the Big Buzz '13 was the obvious winner. Smooth, silent ride, precise shifting and braking, and an overall solid feel in a lightweight but durable commuter bike.

Rated5out of5byfromA great BuzzThe Buzz is loud and strong. Riding long slow distance 4 days/wk over different challenges. After 30 years of Mtn bikes (Ross, Novera, Specialized) it was surprising to ride a light and fast machine - they really make them. Love average speeds > 10 MPH. Like everything on the Buzz. The disc breaks are fab. Does not have shift indices but I can count and feel the gear changes. The tapered handlebar is a challenge to fit my Planet blaze superflash headlight but confident it will be fine with a rubber grommet. Love the big wide pedals after 200 miles in Merrels but plan to swap for Shimano PD-M324 for clean side and clips. I miss the front suspension but getting used to finding a good track and changing hand position. Why did I wait so long to leave the fat side and come to the skinny side. Everyone needs a Buzz!

Rated4out of5byfromSmooth is the wordI wanted a bike I could use as a mode of transportation and the Buzz is great. Fast and smooth, I go from street to trail with ease. I can carry it in and out of my house much easier than my old bike. I'm not a hard core biker but I feel like more of a pro with this bike. I do wish it came with more accessories like fenders, a rack and kick stand which I added, but that adds to the weight as well. I was thinking a wider seat was in order, but I'm getting to like this one now.

Rated5out of5byfromSmooth, Agile, Versatile! This is the most smooth riding, comfortable bike I've ever had the privilege of owning. It's beautiful. In Portland I get comments about how nice it looks, but truth be told, it rides just as nicely, no, better, than it looks. The SRAM is easy to get used to if you've used "quick fire" Shimano in the past. I like it more. Responsive, doesn't give you trouble crisply shifting. The brakes are powerful. They will stop you on a dime. Saddle is nice, too, and doesn't leave my butt all numb. I added These: to the bike, and they look/feel/perform fantastically and compliment the bike well. I also had these: put on, which really add some aesthetically pleasing points for the bike. I use my panniers almost every day, too, and the bike holds up well. Still able to ride just as hard with them on there, with plenty of pedal space. All Around the bike is a solid commuter. I feel powerful, can generate awesome acceleration, and just go fast if I want. Stops hard, handles well. It's an awesome ride. I'd highly recommend it. For the price and the componentry, you cannot go wrong. **IF YOUR BRAKES MAKE A GARGLY NOISE AT FIRST DON'T FREAK OUT. It's just the discs getting acquainted with the pads.**

Rated4out of5byfromLove itI bought this bike for the upcoming triathlons that I registered for. I have only had the chance to ride it a couple of times around the neighborhood. If spring would ever happen I will ride more. The ride has been smooth and comfortable.
