The Surly Ogre bike lives for versatility, offering a platform for exploration, commuting, trailer-pulling, on-road and off-road touring or just riding along.

  • Sturdy 4130 chromoly steel frame offers the strength and smooth handling associated with steel with the cabaility of hauling you and your cargo
  • Gusseted down tube and top tube ensure stout, lasting performance, and the suspension-corrected design means you can put a suspension fork on it if you want
  • Frame and fork are designed to allow the use of fenders, disc brakes, and racks at the same time; removable cantilever brake bosses let you change to a rim brake setup
  • Fork has mid-blade eyelets and low-blade barrel bosses for mounting front racks (rack sold separately)
  • Rear horizontal dropouts feature dedicated holes for mounting trailer-connecting hardware or anchoring a Rohloff OEM2 axle plate, which means yet more expandable versatility
  • Shimano Deore 27-gear drivetrain with Truvativ cranks ensures you can spin easily whether riding fire roads or hauling heavy trailers
  • Avid BB7 mechanical disc brakes facilitate controlled deceleration and sure stopping power in mixed conditions
  • Oversize wheels feature Deore disc hubs laced onto Alex 32-hole rims and dressed with WTB Exiwolf 29er tires for excellent rolling performance on just about any surface
  • Please note: pedals are not included
  • Specs on the Surly Ogre bike are subject to change

Comments about Surly Ogre Bike - 2013:

I moved to the mountains recently and needed a bike that could do just about anything depending on how I built it up or down. I can easily commute with this, or load it up with racks and do some touring, also I can just rip some local single track with it. I'm sure if you wanted it to handle a little more smoothly on rough trail you might want to put a more forgiving fork on it. Overall, the ogre is everything I wanted and REI was extremely easy to purchase from and they offer a free first service on your bike which is a nice perk. I recommend this bike with Surly you really can do no wrong - economically efficient and can be transformed for whatever use you can imagine for it.
