by SnappersfromI want to like itThis is a simple design, easy to fill, easy to clean. But I couldn't get rid of the terrible taste of the plastic components. I added ice to the water, I tried baking powder, I tried the cleaning tablets dissolved in water, I tried lemons. I finally had to replace it with a competitor that didn't have the taste issue. I really wanted to like this product as it is a wonderfully simple design - they all should be so simple to fill with water and add ice, clean, and use. But the terrible taste rendered it unusable.

by waynefromHydration ReservoirGreat idea I think. This allows you to pressurize the reservoir. I do not think it was that difficult to drink from one of my old quality reservoirs. It does allow for multiple people to use and also to put the water in another container. Can also use it as a quick trail shower.

by perkcassofromNot as great as I thought it would beWhat a great idea; a pressurized hydration bladder. I jumped at this one. However, having used it for the past two months, I have grown less impressed by it. First I will say that the workmanship is great; solidly made with no poor or cheap connections anywhere; down to the "snap-in" hose connections. The wide mouth of the bladder itself is terrific for filling and cleaning. The welds on the seams that separate the air chamber from the water chamber is flawless. The slide closure holds well under the heaviest pressure. The bite valve did not drip and closed securely in the "off" position. The unit itself fit comfortably in every pack I own. Everything about this bladder screamed quality. I really wanted to love this thing...but I didn't. Not because it's a piece of junk; far from it. My only complaint was with what it is supposed to do. The idea is that you can pressurize it so you don't have to suck water out of the tube; you simply squeeze down on the mouthpiece and the water squirts into your mouth or the mouth of a companion. The bladder pressurizes fine but it didn't hold pressure very long; it seemed like I was pumping it all the time just to take a drink. Thinking it had a hole or leak in the air system somewhere, I checked it over several times; no such luck. I wound up just sucking water from the tube, as usual. It could just be that I drink alot of water on my hikes so it never really had the chance to maintain enough pressure to "squirt" the water all the time. A little background on my hikes; I live in Vegas and spend much of my time in the desert, especially in the summer. I hike with 4 to 8 gallons of water depending on the distance. For a small hike (under 6 miles) I generally carry about 5 gallons and I will be just about empty by the time I get back to my truck. Mind you it is no inconvenience to suck the water out, but I bought this rig based on the company's claims. The unit is great in all other respects but I found its advertised function fell short. I still use it because it is so easy to clean but I just don't use the inflator pump. I have recommended this rig to friends with the caveat that they shouldn't expect too much from it.

by G TerpefromEasy to use, easy to cleanI use this hydration engine while hiking, and the pressurized bladder works as advertised. It's easy to spray water where you want it and is very easy to drink from. It starts out with a very strong plastic taste, but lemon juice in the bladder and hose seems to have taken care of that. I recommend getting the insulated drinking hose if you'll be out in the sun, because the water in the line gets very warm without it. I love that it's dishwasher safe, and easy to invert for cleaning.

by Hoosier ToddfromUltimate Hydration! This is not only the best hydration pack I have ever used but my favorite piece of gear. Pressurizing the water makes perfect sense and it is a true asset when on the trail. I use this mainly for backpacking and just being able to bite the valve and get a cool water injection is such a great feeling; effortless. Also, being pressurized secured my whole pack. All of my gear is rock solid stable in my pack once I pump up my g'rig.
I was skeptical because it all seems gimmicky but this product made my backcountry experience just that much more enjoyable.

by Pistol PetefromNot just for everyday outdoor activitiesThis hydration engine was included in the Rig 1600 that I got and was totally blown away by it. Let me start by saying this: Plastered all over the website are sweet pictures of people doing things like mountain biking, skiing, skydiving and all manner of outdoor activities. By no means are Geigerrig products limited to that sort of thing. I often times find myself in extreme, remote areas of the undeveloped world where water is either scarce or extremely foul. I recently took mine to the hardest hit areas of Haiti. These areas literally had no clean water. What you filtered is what you had for the day. During our 14+ hour days, this thing was amazing to have. I know some people prefer the smaller engine, but this 3L saved some of my buddies' hides on more than one occasion when they ran out of water. And, just like they advertise, it's so easy to fill up a water bottle with or to spray directly from the tube. Being able to do that without them putting their mouth on it was crucial when they became ill, thus stopping the spread of the bug. The zip top is so money when trying to fill it. And although this is a different Geigerrig product, the in-line virus filter took all the fear out of drinking the water and worked great. These things are tough as nails and easy to field clean (used a little diluted Listerine and flushed it through the engine and tube). Not a single problem with the engine other than the on/off switch on the tube not working...no biggie there. Oh, and probably the greatest thing about Geigerrig is their top-notch customer service. No joke, if you give them a shot for nothing else, do it for the simple fact that they make the best gear out there and STAND BY IT. It's unbelievable. Give these guys a shot! All my other hydration systems now sit in my closet!!!

by Randy CT HikerfromWorth it!I hike the Colorado Trail and CDT regulary and have found my new go to hydration system. It may be a little heavier than some but the durability I get with it makes up for the extras ounces. With the inline filter I can now just fill up the bladder and keep going intstead of sitting there and pumping a hand pump. I have also used this system to filter water for hiking buddies who needed clean water and were too tired to hand filter thier own.
I had a question about how to attatch the filter to the bladder so I emailed them and the Owner responded to me personally, the service I got was the best I have ever had to deal with. So for all those who have any issues with any Giegerrig product I would say contact them and they will take care of it.

by Shanni JfromBest hydration pack I've ever usedI bought the Geigerrig pack a couple years ago, and absolutely love it. It has a pressured bladder, so you don't have to suck out the water from your pack anymore. Doesn't sound that amazing perhaps, until you actually use it. I give my dog water on our hikes without having to bring a bowl, and there's no slobber on the mouth piece. My dog loves it and will come to me when he's thirsty. The pack is also super easy to clean, so I can put in mixers, or non-pulpy juice if I'm riding in the snow. I can come home turn the bag inside out and clean the bladder. I also got the filter system which is great when I pick up water from the river. I totally would suggest this to anyone looking for a new or upgraded pack.
