Rated 5 out of 5 by from Significant Improvement on Original I've had several original PackTowls, and was reasonably pleased until my last on disintegrated after less than a year of use. It began to pull apart like wet paper (even though it was dry). I took it back to REI and upgraded to the UL version. This was a solid decision. I guide coed groups on a variety of trips, and discretion is appreciated. For those who are less comfortable observing changing, the XL version easily fits around the waist for modesty. It is also awesome to have a full sized towel after a swim or bath: it just feels better. And at about 3 oz, it's no skin off my back to have the full sized luxury. It is definitely thin, though. It doesn't feel like a big fluffy terry-cloth towel. It feels like it shouldn't absorb water, but it will. It dries reasonably quickly. Also, it lauders just fine, but I don't put it in the dryer (even though it says you can w/o softener sheets). I am convinced this led to the demise of my original towel. In short, it does just as well drying me as the original, but is much smaller and lighter. I can always have a towel with me, and it saves the day. Just keep it a secret or everyone who forgot a towel will want to use it, which is not cool.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Blue Ink If you buy this pack towel, do not wash it with other clothing as it bleeds ink worse than a pair of new blue jeans. Otherwise, it is a nice lightweight pack towel that will get you dry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Magic Towel I have never posted a review, but I was so amazed by this towel, I have to tell someone. I bought it for a trek in Peru because it was a great size and very thin even though I thought it was kind of pricey. I tested it at home and it performed better than I expected. It absorbed all the water off me and still had dry spots! It dried super quick. GREAT TOWEL - and worth the price! I will start using this everywhere-boat, yoga, beach...

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good travel towel I bought this to use as a beach towel when I travel. It is an excellent size for that and it is absorbent and dries quickly. I also bought the REI MultiTowel Lite Towel. I liked the REI one better because it was softer and nicer overall, but it does not come in as big of size as this one does.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for all weather Needed a towel that I could use backpacking that would dry even when there was high humidity. This towel did an excellent job fitting my needs. Even dried hanging inside a tent when it rained all day. Wash Separately! It bleeds!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my best purchases This was one of my favorite purchases for my recent glacier np trip. I needed a towel for car camping, but I didn't want to pack a bulky regular towel in my luggage and worry about it drying. I got the xxl and it worked great. It is huge and was so nice to wrap up in after a campground shower. It has a little loop for hanging and dries fairly quickly. It's thin like a chamois, but really absorbent. I threw it in a washing machine halfway through my trip, at the laundry at swiftcurrent, and it washed great. I also pre washed it by itself before the trip. It stuffs in it's own little mesh sack between uses, which also has a hook for hanging. As I was unpacking after the trip, I thought to myself, this was a great purchase!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from BLEEDS BLUE My husband and I used these towels on a recent backpacking trip on the John Muir Trail. They were very absorbent, super-quick drying, generously sized, and light-weight. HOWEVER, when they are damp they bleed dye horribly! My damp towel came in contact with some of my other clothes (white shirt, khaki pants, and white socks) and now all those clothes look like they have been tie-dyed blue in parts. This doesn't really matter for grungy backpacking clothes, but I could not possibly recommend this product for use at the beach or for casual traveling, where the appearance of your clothes or swimwear might matter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from As advertised. Ultra Lite towel Took it on a back packing trip in Waimanu Valley in HI. Packs really small & is a fairly large towel. Glad I brought it with me. It thin but absorbs water very well . It doesn't feel right as a beach towel does but for its prime function of drying you and drying quickly its superb. Its got a strap so you could tie it to a tree and let it dry. Haven't really tried machine washing it a whole lot yet so can't comment on long term durability. But if you just need a light towel that packs well and dries you well this is a good buy. If you want a towel with more warmth/fluffyness your going to have to sacrifice some portability.
