Comments about Leki Thermolite XL Aergon Antishock Trekking Poles - Pair:
These are great lightweight trekking poles with fine locking and antishock systems. I'd give them the highest rating, except for one odd design flaw shown in the accompanying photo. The edge on the handle under the strap (with the red arrow in the photo pointing to it on the pole on the left) results from cutting or punching out a rectangular section from a piece of plastic, and is at least dull-knife-edge sharp. People with big hands, like me, who are using the poles without gloves and find that the web between their thumb and first finger lands right on that edge, will likely find within a few minutes of use that their hands feel like they are being cut. My quick fix was to put a couple of layers of cloth tape over that edge, as can be seen on the right pole in the photo, though I may just end up sanding down the edge. Again, all the other features of the pole are fine, but I have to wonder if Leki tested these only with people with small hands or who were wearing gloves.
