Comments about Timex Ironman GPS Run Trainer Heart Rate Monitor:
For all of you who have a Garmin or are thinking about buying one anytime soon, think twice before making that purchase and check out the new Run Trainer by Timex. Timex really did it right by making a watch that wasn't too big yet gives clear, concise, easy to read, accurate data during workouts. Just this morning on my run, I was very impressed by how comfortable it was on my wrist and how easy it was to toggle between screens to view data. Today I preferred to have my heart rate shown nice and big in the middle display and it was perfect! In addition, the GPS connection was super quick to pick up the satellites, and was 100% accurate the whole time. And for the price? Wow...it is so worth the money. I run a lot and this watch is incredible. Give this watch a shot. You won't be disappointed!

Comments about Timex Ironman GPS Run Trainer Heart Rate Monitor:
I was previously a Garmin user, and switched to the Timex Trainer 7 months ago. The Timex is much slower at acquiring a GPS signal, and even on sunny days sometimes won't get a signal at all. I live in SE Michigan, and never had these problems with Garmin. Once it does get the signal, it performs well in all aspects except elevation. I bike and run, and often the "climb" recorded for a 4-mile run will be 3-4x higher than the climb recorded for a much longer distance bike ride over terrain with many more hills. And now, my heartrate monitor has quit working, so I'll be going to REI for a replacement. I don't really see that as a negative because REI is great about any equipment issues. Overall, it's a reasonably good trainer, but definitely playing catch-up to Garmin. Unless Timex makes significant advances, I'll probably go back to Garmin for my next purchase.

Comments about Timex Ironman GPS Run Trainer Heart Rate Monitor:
I've have been using an ironman triathlon watch w/ heart rate monitor for the past several years with absolutely no issues, so that's why I chose to go with the Timex GPS Run Trainer with Heart Rate Monitor. I'm glad I did. If you are used to the Timex layout and functionality it will only take a few minutes to become familiar with this new GPS model. The system is intuitive and simple. The GPS signal picks up almost instantly when I step outside and it's accurate.
I was impressed with the improvements Timex has made with the heart rate monitor and strap. I much prefer the new design with the button snaps over the older design. It's comfortable and I hardly notice it's there.
The GPS watch syncs with an included UBS cord that simply clips onto the watch. It took me a day or two to figure out the Training Peaks online software. TP is not as appealing to they eye as some other fitness websites or smartphone apps, but it does what you need it to do...and more if you pay for the premium subscription. The free version does everything I need, so I don't have any plans to pay for the premium services.
I was able to get 5 workouts in before the battery went out and needed to be charged, but I mistakenly left the GPS function running during times when I wasn't working out, which is a bigger draw on the battery.
I've only been on a half dozen runs with it thus far. Only time (no pun intended) will tell if the materials will hold up. If it's anything like my other Ironman watch, it will take a lickin' and keep on tickin' for quite some time.
I do wish it came with a plug-in charging option.
Service and delivery comments:
Fedex delivered the watch two days later than it had originally promised. Not an REI issue.

I really like this watch. It's easy to use, and the corresponding web-based TrainingPeaks data was informative. I would recommend this watch to other runners.

Comments about Timex Ironman GPS Run Trainer Heart Rate Monitor:
Sometimes it takes over 10 mins to pick up a signal, even on a clear day. I live in manhattan by Central Park and have had to go on my runs without GPS....so I didn't know my pace.
I do love the the features and customizability.

Comments about Timex Ironman GPS Run Trainer Heart Rate Monitor:
I purchased this watch to help on long training runs and a specific upcoming race. The GPS will shut off if it is below room temperature (i.e. 50 degrees...not very cold!!) and will not turn on again until it has been warmed up for several hours. This watched completely failed me on several long runs and most importantly the race...which really screwed up my race strategy. Complete FAILURE!

Comments about Timex Ironman GPS Run Trainer Heart Rate Monitor:
This watch is more a hindrance than a help. The expression "you get what you pay for" sums up my experience.
The speed, distance, and HR sensors are completely unreliable. Readings are so variable, off by impossible amounts. E.g., I supposedly travelled only 6km on a 10km race course one day; on another, my heart rate showed as 239 bpm while I coasted on my bike down a hill.
Sometimes it seems to give reasonable readings, but with at least one clear inaccuracy every time I wear it, how do I know if it's every accurate? If I can't count on my watch to be accurate, or at least biased in one direction consistently, then how can I rely on it for anything? It's beyond worthless...it's a liability for someone who has to run/ride in certain HR zones.
Last point...I won't even be able to use it in the Ironman. The battery life isn't long enough for even the winner to complete the ride & run before the watch dies. Why was this watch even allowed on the market with the Ironman name on it?

During recent travel abroad I it took me a ver long time to figure out how to reset the time. Thus far it is way too complicated for me to be able to use.

Comments about Timex Ironman GPS Run Trainer Heart Rate Monitor:
The watch does exactly what I wanted it to do. I can now run and not have to be concerned about distance and trying to figure out my pace at the same time. It is nice how all the information downloads on the computer for me as well. Overall I give this watch an A+ versus its counterpart the Global Trainer. Only Con would be that I would like it if the battery life lasted a little longer.

Comments about Timex Ironman GPS Run Trainer Heart Rate Monitor:
This watch/gps/heart rate monitor is a data crunching gem. With the free online connection, you can actually watch a graphical display of your run/ride on a map with associated changes in your heart rate, pace and step rate (with the foot chip). It takes a little time to set up, but is simple to use once you get started. I am loving this device and the feedback it's giving me.
