Comments about REI Urban Overnighter Pack - Special Buy:
I bought this pack a year ago when I began commuting via motorcycle almost exclusively. This bag has very few straps to secure (or fly around), small and quiet zippers, mesh pockets and plenty of features to provide plenty of versatility as well as usability. The expanding pocket is great. This bag is just large enough for weekend trips and great for dayhiking - city or woods. It has held up well to loads of miles and weather. It's not waterproof, but that's a minor issue. My cat likes to dig his claws in to the backpadding if I'm not vigilant about putting it out of his reach.
It maintains it's shape and still looks brand new.
This is by far the best pack of this size and purpose that I've ever owned. I have two or three others in my house right now that just didn't cut the mustard.

Comments about REI Urban Overnighter Pack - Special Buy:
There are few casual use backpacks that can be cross used as a true extended stay overnight bag. REI did a great job with this bag by including a zip out extension to make this bag a very practical travel bag but also one that works as a daily hauler for your personal items. The primary part of the bag has a mesh cinch down seperator so that you can secure clothing to the bag keeping it organized. The top of the bag has a very useful zipper pouch that you can throw a phone, wallet, keys or other small items that you need quick access too. The smaller front pocket has alot of smaller pockets for organizing things and has an attached lanyard for keys. It also has a nice water bottle pouch on the side which comes in handy. It's been an incredibly useful bag in many different environments and uses. I think the zip out extension is very helpful for traveling when I need just a bit more room to pack clothes or other items. It serves great as a day hiker pack and keeps me organized when I use it to carry my items to work. I've had mine for 4 years or so and it's withstood all sorts of abuse. My cat has started to do some real damage to the back of it and I've been considering getting a new bag but every one I've looked at seems to offer less versatility than this one so I haven't been interested in buying a different bag. Maybe I should buy a second one of these just in case REI stops manufacturing it. The only issue I have with the bag is that the shoulder straps and padded back aren't the most comfortable. I have an earlier model than the one listed here and I think this model has better padding. Mine works fine for me but I would have liked slightly more cushioning and also a waist strap to secure the bag for more adventerous hiking. Still, it's a tank of a bag that has the most usability I've ever seen for what most people think of as a basic styled daypack. Highly recommended.
