Comments about REI Comet Pack - Kids' - Special Buy:
I bought two of these packs for my kids and we LOVE them! This thing is amazingly adjustable and very comfortable. It does not hold a lot of stuff, but it is designed to fit kids who can't carry much anyway. I found it PERFECLTY sized for my 8 year-old son with a lot of room for him to grow. There are great external pockets and lashing points, and the pouches on the hipbelt are very handy. After using this on a 3-day 2-night backpacking trip I can say it is high quality well designed. We love these things and can't wait to use them again!

Comments about REI Comet Pack - Kids' - Special Buy:
My nine and eleven year-olds just got back from a 28 mile three night trek. The pack did a great job for both my kids. We were able to fit a 2 liter platipus quick release bag in the outside pocket which I recommend. They each carried a sleeping bag, pad, top and bottom fleece, rain gear, meal kits, the day's lunch and snacks, spare socks, survival blanket, hefty bag, and flip flops for a total of 15 lbs. My eleven year old added the rain fly to her gear. I agree about the hip belt being a bit large. I have a very small nine year old...my husband and I had to each get on an end to sintch the strap down to his size. The only pockets they didn't use were on the hip, but something very small could have fit there.

Comments about REI Comet Pack - Kids' - Special Buy:
I rent this pack for my 9-10 year old girl from my local REI every time we have an overnight backpacking trip (4 times in past two years). Easily carries a sleeping bag, one or two changes of clothes, and personal items/snacks. I also strap a sleeping pad to the top pack. For those types of loads (under 20 pounds) it works well, is balanced, and reasonably comfortable for one-way hikes up to 10 miles.
My two complaints are that 1) the hip belt can't tighten down enough for a small frame kid and 2) is designed for a 1L hydration pack, not a 2L.
I'll probably keep renting as needed for another year until she is 11, then get her a small women's pack.
