Comments about REI Venturi 40 Pack - Men's - Special Buy:
Purchased this last fall, and have been using it exclusively as my weekend outing pack. I've been able to pack all of my personal gear, including Hennessy hammock, underquilt, and winter bag, without an issue. The webbing on the back does a great job allowing your back to breath and keep from getting swampy. I've only encountered light rain, however the waterproof pockets have held their own despite spending some nights exposed to the elements.
My only 2 gripes are:
1. Needs bottom access - the top-load system is OK, but it would be nice to be able to load from the bottom.
2. External frame intrudes on main compartment - the framing pokes into the main compartment area, making it tough to get bulkier items into the bottom of the pack. I always start with my sleeping bag and underquilt packed into the bottom, so not a big deal for me.
I'll be picking up another one of these for my son to use for Scouts and would highly recommend it as a great value for a lightweight pack.
I'll also add that I'm 6'3", 240lbs. My son, who is 6'0" 150 has also used it comfortably with no issues - straps are very adjustable.

Comments about REI Venturi 40 Pack - Men's - Special Buy:
This pack is THE most comfortable pack I have ever used. What a surprise. REI makes descent stuff but this pack is really great. It is VERY light and extremely comfortable. I use it for 14er day hikes and it would also work for 1 or 2 nights. Highly recommended. Excellent pack and a great closeout price.
Its well made and not "fussy" at all. Just the right amount of adjustments, straps, and pockets.

Comments about REI Venturi 40 Pack - Men's - Special Buy:
I really like this bag. It has an abundance of pockets and a very roomy lid. I like the adjustability of the pack and how it carries the weight that I stuff in it. I have used this pack several times without issue. I usually carry my sleeping bag at the bottom, then my Quarterdome tent, MSR pinnacle dualist cookset and my MSR whisperlite stove and my food on top of that.
I have been on several overnight trips, but this pack can easily hold enough for 2-3 nights out in the woods.
The only thing that I have been left wishing for is more points to strap things to on the outside of the pack.
