The REI Sub Alpine UL tent is made for backpackers who want to travel light and fast. This tent is compact and wind-shedding—a great choice for 3-season alpine use.

  • Use of light yet tough materials combined with a hard-wearing floor and pole clips shaves weight with no durability worries
  • Stable, 3-pole modified dome design stands up to high winds; compact footprint fits easily in small campsites
  • Modified dome design adds comfort for tall campers because of the extra head room it provides
  • DAC Featherlite® aluminum poles are lightweight yet incredibly strong, and with Pressfit connectors they are less susceptible to breakage
  • Our patented Strong Arm clips found at each pole intersection are designed to strengthen pole structure and provide swift setup
  • Insider Floor seams are engineered to create a nice, clean taut pitch and maximize floor space; factory seam-taping ensures a waterproof seal
  • No-see-um mesh ceiling panel, front door panel and rear window allow cross ventilation, preventing condensation inside tent
  • Roof vent in front vestibule also helps prevent condensation by allowing airflow through tent; can be opened from inside the tent
  • Lightweight nylon ripstop rainfly offers durability and weight savings; silicon treatment gives long-lasting weatherproofness
  • Color-coded rainfly corners allow easy orientation of rainfly on tent for fast, easy setup
  • Roll up and secure vestibule door out of the way for more ventilation or create an awning by supporting vestibule door with trekking poles
  • Watertight welded vestibule window brings light inside and lets you view conditions outside
  • Back of rainfly rolls up and secures half open for extensive views to the outside; quickly and easily rolls down into place when needed
  • Leakproof rainfly ensures that water won't sneak through susceptible areas, such as guyout points and zippers
  • Attention to detail shows in the reflective guy points and zipper pulls, and adjustable REI Cleat Lock tie-downs on vestibules
  • Comes with guylines and tighteners, stakes, pole and stake bags, and tapered, easy-to-use compression stuff sack

Comments about REI Sub-Alpine UL Tent - 2012 Special Buy:

I inherited this tent from my husband's boss who does alot of backpacking and had purchased a new tent. I use it on all of our scout troop campouts along with outdoor leader trainings. It's survived 3 seasons, and several wet nights. It's super lightweight and I usually pull my bag in next to me. I don't own the footprint but am plannin on buying one now that this tent is being re-issued/re-offered -- I'd like the tent to last a good while longer. I have the Chrysalis too, which is lighter and smaller. The sub-alpine is easier to maneuver around in.
