I put it up by myself to test it out. But it helps to have a partner during set up.

Comments about REI Hobitat 4 Tent - Special Buy:
We LOVED this tent for family camping in WV and Ohio, it kept us comfortable, warm and dry (even in a thunderstorm!) and cool in the evenings with the wonderful mesh 'windows' on all 4 sides.
Great to have a nice-sized tent that is easy to stand up in, easy to put up, and easy to carry!
Service and delivery comments:

Comments about REI Hobitat 4 Tent - Special Buy:
When researching tents, my other half put the requirement that she wanted to be able to stand up straight while changing. My requirement was ventilation. This fit both bills. Camping in CA can get warm. It was nice to have the fly off at night. We were in Sequoia for two weeks and this tent did not fail. Our gear stayed dry during several afternoon thunder storms. The near vertical walls made use of every square inch of floor space.
Putting this tent up by myself would be a bit of a chore but it can be up in 10 mins with help.
There's only us two in this tent. The extra room is a godsend. Her being able to walk around to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night and not crawl over me is pure luxury.
A definite keeper for car camping. Plus, getting it at REI's outlet with their 20% off sale saved a bunch. When compared to other tents elsewhere at the sale price, there was no real comparison.

This is a great tent! Very easy to set up in less than 10 minutes. I had a second person helping me set it up. It would be possible but difficult to set it up solo. The tent is spacious with lots of extra pockets to store gear. Perfect for car camping!

Comments about REI Hobitat 4 Tent - Special Buy:
Great tent, easy to set up, spacious, tall, solid, and looks great to boot.
We have not tested it in rain, so can't attest to waterproofing.
Wind does cause drafts because it is so well ventilated, but because we are planning on using it in generally warmer weather, we are not too worried. The previous reviewer hit it on the head with using a tarp to block the vents if that was necessary.
It says this is a 3 season tent, but may be a little cool in cold weather. However, it is so well ventilated and spacious that I could actually see using a small lantern/heater in the tent if necessary.
The poles seem very substantial and strong. I believe they are 6000 or 7000 series aluminum, so the are strong.
Important: This really requires two people to set up. I had read previous reviews of this tent and there were reports of tent poles being broken when just one person was setting them up. I can see that this might be an issue. With two people, the process is easy and seamless.
Color coded poles are fantastic, the size inside is perfect for people up to 6 feet tall. Comes in a nice bag with backpack style shoulder straps, several nice compartments to keep all accessories organized, and the bag is big enough to put it away with ease.
A great beginner/comfort/camping tent all the way around.

Comments about REI Hobitat 4 Tent - Special Buy:
I, wife, and two springer spaniels find this tent to be near perfect as a tent could be. Some camping areas it's difficult to find a level spot to set up a large tent, it's easy to find that perfect spot for a tent this size.
Compared to a true dome style, H4's box like shape offers more room to move about. H4's sturdy large diameter poles offer structural integrity, so it ignores wind. Other tents have polyester floor material, H4 offers nylon, the same used on professional high-end tents. Tents in the 4-8 person range I expect there to be considerable weight, and in this category; weight equals strength.
Heavy duty: floor, structural aluminum poles, stakes, rain cover, oversize organized in a divided backpack case, and REI's customer service make this Classic Hobitat 4 a great choice.
In colder weather the lower vents were a source of drafts, but I found placing the rain cover against the lower part of the tent, and securing it there solved the problem. The lower vents will make sleeping during warm to hot nights comfortable, and this feature was a deciding factor of my purchase.
Perfect for two people, and two dogs. When a person's situation changes purchase larger, or smaller. It's okay to have more than one tent!
