Taking cues from high-end shoes, these women's Giro Solara road bike shoes offer a supportive fit with a supple upper and a stiff sole.

Supple microfiber uppers (with nylon mesh inserts) give a glovelike fit with excellent breathability
Dupont Zytel® nylon soles efficiently transfer power to the pedals and provide greater fatigue resistance than traditional nylon soles
Molded EVA footbeds with medium arch supports; Aegis™ EVA footbeds have an antimicrobial treatment for odor control
Strong and secure ratcheting buckle (replaceable) allows precise on-the-fly adjustability; make microadjustments to match the ride's intensity
2 rip-and-stick closure straps provide a solid, secure fit; offset D-ring closure at mid-foot relieves pressure points
Giro Solara women's road bike shoes are compatible with SPD-SL and Look pedals; (pedals typically include cleats; cleats are also available for separate purchase)

I bought these shoes as an upgrade from a Bontrager shoe. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the upper for the price. The material is supple and form fitting, without feeling overly tight. The sole is stiff. The velcro straps plus the ratcheting top strap allow me to make a multitude of small adjustments to fit as my feet demand. I did feel the shoes ran a bit small, as I needed almost a half size bigger than my Bontrager shoes, which fit large on me. However, I have pretty wide feet, so it may just be that they run narrow.

The color is nice, feminine without being obnoxious. The overall look is sleek.

Got this shoes not long before beginning the AIDS/LifeCycle, which is a 7-day ride from San Francisco to LA, and had to get the broken in quickly. Turns out they did not need to be broken in at all and were immediately comfortable. I only did a couple 30-40 miles rides in these shoes before ALC and I had no problems whatsoever. The toe box is moderately roomie, which I like a lot. If you like your shoes very form fitting, then these probably won't work for you. They held up well in a variety of weather including a major rainstorm that we rode through. The vents allowed water into the shoes during the downpour but that's what shoe covers and plastic bags are for! I also very much like the ratchet closure. When my feet were hot and swollen I could easily reach down and loosen the shoe without having to stop riding at all. I would recommend these shoes without reservation! Oh... and thank you Giro for not making them some silly pastel color but charcoal with just a touch of burgundy. I appreciate that!
