Comments about NEMO Astro Insulated Air Pad:

I used this on a trip to Patagonia and encountered no issues at all. I won't say it's as comfortable ad my bed but at no point was I uncomfortable on it and I slept great. We were in some cold areas at times but I never felt anything coming up from the ground so I can vouch for the insulation being effective. It's also surprisingly easy to pack up. Maybe it was because mine was so new that it still had the original folds pretty well defined but it only took a few minutes to get the air out and fold it up. You may be a little lightheaded after blowing it up but I don't think you need a pump, it's not that bad. Overall, although I don't have experience with other sleeping pads and can't really compare, I found this one to be great.

Comments about NEMO Astro Insulated Air Pad:

GREAT addition to the packlist. This thing is super light, seems durable enough for a human (not gorilla proof), blows up quickly with a NeoAir pump sack, packs small, and is very comfortable. It has a little bounce, like most inflatable sleep pads, but not bad. Fairly quiet and doesn't crinkle at all. Can't speak to the insulating value since I haven't used it in super cold temps but it should cut the heat loss to the ground. Great if used by itself but UNREAL when used with the additional pillowtop pad. That's up to you if you want to spend the extra $$ and have the other weight. Buying both is a good option if you want the option of minimalist weight while going bare bones or slightly more weight for a cushy night's sleep.

Comments about NEMO Astro Insulated Air Pad:

It's a little pricy, but this is really a great pad. Much better than the Therm-a-rest I had used previously. It packs very small and fits in a front pocket of my pack. It takes a bit to get it inflated, but I'm not sure you need a pump.

Comments about NEMO Astro Insulated Air Pad:

Two things to make this a near-perfect sleep system: 1) Definitely get the "pillow" accessory that's available with the Astro (basically a comfy sack that slips around the pad); 2) get a pump sack for inflating (I recommend Therm-a-rest's Neo Air pump sack). With the sack, it was easy to inflate; with the pillow, I could literally put it anywhere (sharp gravel if I wanted) and it was *comfortable*. I hardly ever sleep well backpacking -- with this system, I slept like a baby five nights straight. Haven't used it in cold weather yet, but expect it to perform well given the foam cushioning in the pillow. Yes, the combined pad & pillow are a little bulky, but still light, and I had no trouble tying it to the top of a very full pack. It's so comfortable, I'd even offer it to company crashing overnight at my house. It absolutely rocks!
