    The REI Member Dividend

The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.

Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.

Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Fluid 26 Pack:

I have a ton of packs in every size, shape, and brand. This is my favorite pack under 30 liters. The back panel is flexible yet carries a load effectively. It is extremely comfortable and almost feels like a part of your body. Most complaints about this pack come from people who want to carry a large amount of weight in this pack. My one complaint is that I don't think it is the most stylish pack. If you are looking for a small day pack, that is extremely comfortable, light, and fun this is the pack for you. I carry about 10 lbs in it and it works like a dream.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Fluid 26 Pack:

I wasn't sure what a one-star bag would be -- probably something that couldn't be used as a bag. So I went with two stars.

At first everything seemed fine, and then all the little annoying flaws made me truly dislike this bag.

          1. The shape -- it's shapeless. The back doesn't hold it all, it's like an accordion. No matter what you put inside it feels like a sack with straps.
          2. The additional strap down the middle makes no sense. I suppose it's for your helmet, but aside from that it's mostly useless. Worse, it falls out whenever the tension is relaxed, i.e. whenever the bag is put down.
          3. The single-strap compression is not a terrible idea, but it doesn't work well. The aluminum guides don't work unless the bag is filled to the max. They don't guide the straps, which slide off the guides and bunch up and rub against the edge of the aluminum. The single-strap compression also makes it impossible to get the bag into the right shape, cause you can't adjust it just in one spot. It's a weird all-or-nothing system.
          4. The absence of a shape to this bag means that if you put in an object with a shape (e.g. book, laptop), it becomes the bottom of the bag. You can't put it up against the back and expect it to stay there. It will slide down.
          5. The bladder compartment is surprisingly difficult to get a bladder into our out of. You need to loosen the top straps and fold out the shoulder straps. Also, forget trying to do it if there's anything in the bag. It being shapeless and not having a real frame sheet makes it impossible.

All in all, these might all sound trivial and small, but they add up to an inferior bag that's not functional. I use it as a last resort when I need a bag to take with me that I don't care very much about. I wouldn't recommend it.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Fluid 26 Pack:

I mostly use this pack as my carry-on/utility bag when traveling and for fast hiking. It's got just enough room for a full day out in changing weather (when you may want to pack soem extra clothes), and the different compartments make it easy to keep items organized and handy. particularly like the fact that it does NOT have a stiff frame. The flexible back panel makes it easy to pul the pack tight against your back if you are traveling quickly or bushwhacking, and it also makes it easier to stow (e.g., under the seat on an airplane). I also have a Gregory Miwok, which is quite similar, but the Fluid has a bit more room and is a bit easier to pack. For my uses, this is as good as I've found.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Fluid 26 Pack:

This pack looked really good on paper as far as size and weight are concerned for a daypack. I ordered it online without checking it out in the store. When I received the pack I immediately knew that I would return it. The "frame" on this pack is a horizontally corrugated plastic sheet. There is no vertical rigidity and it does not transfer of load from the pack to the waistbelt. That, for me, was a deal-breaker because even though the loads I would be carrying in this pack would likely not exceed 20 lbs. I prefer to have a frame and suspension that puts the weight on my hips, where it should be. The pack isn't all bad though, it has some good pockets. The front stash pocket was my favorite because you could put a really puffy insulation layer in it no problem. If your not looking for a backpack that doesn't need a frame than the Fluid 26 might be good for you, but if you need some support for your pack, look elsewhere. For me, I ended up getting the Osprey Stratos 24, which is, in my opinion, the pefect daypack.
