Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra Mid 2 GTX Hiking Shoes - Men's:
The boots feel great. They are very light and provides a nice feel around your ankle. No break-in period necessary, but it's smart to wear them in and around for a few days before taking them on a hike.
I, personally, don't like the lacing system. I'm very picky about how my boots lace up and where they hold. The old 3D GTX boots were nearly perfect. Also the insoles are delaminating and I've only had the boots for 2 months. I guess I'll have to buy some new insoles, but I never had that issue with my old 3D's.

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra Mid 2 GTX Hiking Shoes - Men's:
Purchased this shoe while hiking the AT. Lite-weight, dried quickly, and fit comfortably right out of the box. Got one size larger than normal due to feet swelling from all the walking. Love the shoe so much I just got a pair for everyday use. Only drawback is they wear out around 500 miles.

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra Mid 2 GTX Hiking Shoes - Men's:
I have several pairs of soloman shoes, and love the wieght and fit. These shoes fit great out of the box, and never had hot spots or blisters while backpacking. My only serious complaint is the fact that after 1 year of hiking quite a bit, the soles are starting to crack and crumble. I actually thought about just buying a pair annually, but instead am looking at the new Asolo Reston or Zanberlan crosser. They look as if they have the same weight with a Vibram sole.

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra Mid 2 GTX Hiking Shoes - Men's:
The Good-
Great, lightweight, waterproof, comfortable, fairly rugged boot that held up for 2 seasons under a variety of conditions, from the Wind Rivers to the Grand Canyon.
The Bad-
At the start of the third season, noticed that the sole was getting quite chewed up and worst of all, that the boots were no longer waterproof.
With all that said, considering getting another pair as they seem to be the best available in the narrow catagory of lightweight, fairly rugged, comfortable, waterproof, 2 season hiking boots.

Use these boots for just about everything I do that requires being anywhere that isn't paved. Love the lace style and the way they perform under pressure.

This product was so good, that I purchased the trail running shoes XTWings 3 from Salomon to try as a golf shoe. Tomorrow, 1 Feb 13 will be my first time to try them on the course. The NO TIE shoelace design is so good that I wonder why more companies don't have it (patents probably the reason)

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra Mid 2 GTX Hiking Shoes - Men's:
I wear these shoes all of the time. They are very comfortable. The only issue I have had is that they squeek even when on carpet. I took back first pair due to the noise and second pair just as noisy. I think it is in the tread design. Soft rubber and direction? Otherwise these are one of the best pair of shoes I have ever owned. Love the lacing system and waterproof. I stood in water up to my ankle and did not get wet at all.

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra Mid 2 GTX Hiking Shoes - Men's:
I used these on a winter hike up a 4000 footer this December and was initially pleased with their performance. However, as the hike progressed they became increasingly uncomfortable and annoying. I have no problem with the general boot design, but its critical flaw is in the laces. They continually loosened as I hiked, making the boots less comfortable and effective. I had to constantly stop and tighten them. In addition, the end of the laces was very long and difficult to tuck into the laces or the boot, so I kept tripping on them as I went. A few times my crampons caught on the laces and thank god they did not break because I would have been in real trouble if the thin little string had come all undone. I will be returning these.

Salomon makes great footwear. All the pairs I've owned have been completely comfortable right out of the box. I wear these in the rain constantly for work and they are absolutely waterproof. I love Salomon's lacing system, as long as the eyelets have a hard inner guide like these do.

Comments about Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra Mid 2 GTX Hiking Shoes - Men's:
I walked the Camino de Santiago in Spain this year with these boots. Over 400 miles without significant problems. I've used Salomon's for 12 years because I never blister my heels in them. My only disappointment was in cracking in the uppers where the shoe bends for the toes. Not very waterproof in the rainy Galicia, Spain at the end of the trip. I've had this problem with other goretex Salomon's, but not with their non-goretex products.
