Comments about REI Personal Cooler:

I own nearly every size of REI coolers that are out there. I love them. I like this one too - nice size, good insulation, sturdy, BUT it doesn't compact as noted. I tried several times, but this thing just does not compact - it's full sized upon delivery. Other compressable REI coolers I've purchased are shipped to me in compressed mode. It's not a feature I need all the time, but I do travel a lot and always like to take a personal sized cooler with me when I fly on a vacation. If I want to take this one I'll have to pack things into it to save space then put it in my suitcase vs. being able to compress it which is what I'd prefer to do. The 2 coolers that are larger than this one have outer straps that are used to compress it - this one doesn't have those.

Bottom line - if you need a small sized cooler that compresses you'll be disappointed with this. If you don't need it to compress you'll likely be very pleased. I'm going to vote "yes, I'd recommend to a friend", but with the caveat that this doesn't compress.
