Comments about REI Joule Sleeping Bag - Women's:
I bought this bag for backpacking in the Cascades. I used it this weekend on a 23 degree night. My feet were cold but the rest of me was toasty warm! If I had had down booties I would have been totally fine. I was very comfortable and definitely got some of the best sleep out of the 30 people in our group.

Comments about REI Joule Sleeping Bag - Women's:
I did a lot of research into buying a new sleeping bag, you have to when you're spending a lot of money. I was looking for a bag that would keep me warm in about 25 degree weather, but it also had to be light weight because I do a lot of backpacking, and carrying a heavy/bulky bag is never fun. This bag compresses really well, I bought a Sea to Summit compression sack and it was smaller than a football. I also just got back from backpacking in Sequoia National Park mid-April and it was pretty darn cold. At 7 in the morning it said it was 25 degrees. I'm normally a cold sleeper and I didn't wake once in the middle of the night because of being cold. I actually had to take off some layers because the bag felt so warm. I bought the long size because I'm 5'9" and it was perfect. I also move a lot in my sleep and this bag allows you to do just that without it being a complete hassle.

Comments about REI Joule Sleeping Bag - Women's:
I bought this bag after looking around for several months for a good sleeping bag at a reasonable price and I also read a lot about sleeping bags and talked to a lot of people so far I have been VERY happy with it. It's fluffy, warm and cozy! It's doesn't pack extremely small, but I also have a smaller pack (Osprey Ariel 65 before it was updated), but it packs much smaller than my previous synthetic.
I've camped/backpacked in New Hampshire in spring/summer and Alaska in the summer and have been pretty warm in the bag, I sleep in mid-weight long underwear. The last time I used it in Alaska the temperature dipped into the 30's and I was a little cold, but added a layer and was fine, I was also alone in a 3 person tent. I debated going for another synthetic bag or a down one knowing I was moving to Alaska and I am so thankful I went with a down bag, it's great. I make sure to pack it in a waterproof stuff sack when I backpack and my tent keeps me very dry, a down bag hasn't been a problem yet with the rain.
The zipper can occasionally be hard to pull down from the top when inside the bag and the knee space is a little tighter than I was expecting but has mostly worked out fine, I can still change my clothes in the bag. The reason for the 4 star rating, although it really deserves 4.5 stars!
Overall an EXCELLENT bag for the price that I have no regrets buying and really do HIGHLY recommend this sleeping bag!

finally i'm not cold! i sleep very comfortably in this bag. i'm moving from a casual rec person to someone who's out every weekend or so, and i wanted to invest in a great bag to go backpacking with. it's lightweight, has enough room for me to shift around in and keeps my feet nice and toasty. i've only used it this summer so far, so i'm not sure how it'll fare in the fall when the temps drop, but i anticipate it'll do nicely. the only thing i don't like is the zipper can catch quite easily. otherwise, great bag so far.

Comments about REI Joule Sleeping Bag - Women's:
I was looking for a women's bag (snug fit keeps you warmer) that is lightweight, packs down small, and is warm enough for below freezing temps. I've only used this bag 1 weekend in Desolation Wilderness. There were snow patches around the campsite and a cold front came in the second night. But I stayed plenty warm. I didn't even have it zipped all the way up. One thing I really like about this bag is the neck liner, which keeps the draft out when you roll on your side. I was also using the Exped UL mattress pad, which has a great warmth rating and is super comfy.

I've used this on casual camping trips so far, in preparation for longer, lighter-weight backpacking trips this summer and next winter. I'm very happy with the comfort, the puffiness, and the warmth. I opted for the regular and I'm 5'7, at which height I believe they recommended the long. It is just right, if I were an inch taller or it were an inch shorter, it would not work. It is definitely snug in the knees, and I'm a skinny girl, which is the only reason it gets a 4 not a 5. I hope that after those ultralight backpacking trips I'm happy they weren't wasting weight with material or down in the knee area.

Comments about REI Joule Sleeping Bag - Women's:
I bought this for hiking on the Appalachian Trail this year. I've backpacked and slept in it about 5 nights so far, in temps from about 18-35 degrees. 18 degrees was pushing it (feet got cold and I used a silk liner also), but I still slept. This is a comfy bag, and warm IMO. The zipper is reinforced and sturdy, does not snag. It is comparable to higher priced, more well known brands of lightweight down bags. It packs small, but not as small as other brands (Marmot or WM). The leg room is a little restricted relative to other mummy bags, but if it helps keep the weight down a little, then it's fine by me. I'd buy again, but I don't know yet if it will hold up to tons of use this spring - we will see. Very happy with it so far!
