The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Outdoor Research Papyrus Brim Hat:
Very comfortable, yet stylish. The brim is fairly broad, so keeps the sun from face and neck. I bought two more after the first one, one for a gift, so it's pretty clear that I like these hats a lot and would recommend them to others, especially to those who are sun-sensitive.

Comments about Outdoor Research Papyrus Brim Hat:
My husband loved the fit and feel of this hat. Good sun coverage but the top of the hat creased and wrinkled and the edge of the brim snapped in two places. Felt a bit fragile overall.

Comments about Outdoor Research Papyrus Brim Hat:
There's something heroic about this hat - at least in the blocking of the one I purchased out of a heap of sun hats in a Whitney climbing shop a couple of years ago. It has the lines of Hemingway era safari hat, but is cheap (for the value), light, and surprisingly durable for a hat made of papyrus. I had expected it to loose form after a few days of rough use, but, after two years, it looks pretty much as it did when I bought it. The brim will flip up in a stiff breeze, but the lanyard keeps it on your head, so why worry? I have no idea if it's washable (who washes a brimmed hat?) or how it performs in the rain (who would buy a papyrus hat for the Monsoon season?), but it serves well on long hikes under a hot sun. I've learned over the decades not to depend on the makers of great hats to continue to produce them, so I may purchase a replacement or two before this one expires.
