Comments about Osprey Atmos 65 Pack:
I picked up the 2012 model from my local shop and just got back from a trip. I'm not sure on all the updates, but it looks like the belt pockets are no longer mesh and they changed the padding type in the belt as well. The mesh back panel is also a bit closer to the pack; not sure if this is a good thing. With my model, you can put a 3L bladder in between the mesh and the bag itself. I would have to say the should straps are a bit narrow and cause pressure points. Loading can also be a bit awkward with the curve of the frame; it curves into the main compartment. That is a minor complaint though. I really like the hip belt lay out on this pack though. The buckle is on an adjustable loop that provides more surface area to distribute load. Very good quality and sturdy with great organization.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 65 Pack:
I bought this pack to possibly replace my baltoro 75 to save a couple pounds and still have the comfort gregory is known for. It did not work for me. The osprey was comfortable with 25 pounds in it, but with anymore it felt like it was hanging on me, not secure. Also the straps on the back are not spaced right to securely hold anything without flopping around. This pack would do well for a weekend but I do a lot of weeklong trips so without the ability to secure gear outside the pack it was just too small for me. I tried, but the heavier baltoro is the perfect pack for me.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 65 Pack:
First of all, Osprey as a company, is everything you could ever want out of a source for pack gear. Top of the line equipment and top of the line warranty. I not only love my atmos 65, but also a viper 13 and viper 5.
The little things on the atmos are what really make the difference, like the stretchy chest strap. Simply genius, I love a tight fit around my chest but I am rather large in the area. The stretchy chest strap makes breathing, climbing, ducking, and just moving very hassle free.
The size is perfect for what I need. The taped zippers replacing a rain-fly work great.
Back to the warranty, and Osprey in general.... I always feel so comfortable using my pack and pushing it to its limits knowing no matter what happens, Osprey will fix/replace the whole thing or any part on it.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 65 Pack:
I picked this pack out because it has roomy external pockets, 2 on the waist belt, 2 on the pack face and a big one on the pack top cover. Many packs these days have few or no external pockets for gear bigger than a power bar and I really wanted to have quick access to things! I've used this pack a couple of times on winter overnights with about 35lbs of gear. I find it very comfortable and stable on my body. I really liked the waist belt tightening system and the back venting panel. I'm looking forward to using it in the summer and seeing how cool it keeps me! My only complaint (although a small one) is that, due to the way the waist belt is attached to the bag, my current pack cover will not stay on the pack. It keeps slipping off of it. Other than that I really like this pack and hope to get many years of fun use out of it!!

Comments about Osprey Atmos 65 Pack:
I LOVE Osprey products, I really do. I have the Osprey Poco Premium child carrier and I can hike 6-7 miles with my 1 year old plus some gear stowed in the pack and I barely feel any additional weight. The Poco does a tremendous job at spreading the weight and it has a great hipbelt system. I bought this because it was an Osprey pack, got pretty good reviews, and was exactly the size that I needed.
I used this pack about 6 times on hikes ranging from 4 to 9 miles. I really wanted to like this pack but I had to return it. Part of the problem isn't necessarily a problem with the pack but that I'm not a small guy. I'm 5'11" and 220 pounds. The bottom of the frame, which is supposed to wrap around your waist (which I'm sure it does on thinner men) just dug right into the corners of my back. I felt like the Atmos had half the features of the Aether but wasn't half the price. Like most other reviewers, I aslo struggled with the water bottle holders, the external pockets couldn't be filled AFTER the inside of the pack was filled, the hipbelt wasn't replaceable and the hydration pack sleave was half the height that it should of been. The Aether solves all of these problems and it's a much better fitting pack. Yes, it weighs a pound more for roughly the same internal volume, but at 40 years old, I'm all about comfort rather than weight savings.
Both the Atmos and Aether are very high quality packs and seem very durable. For a little bit more money, the Aether is such a better pack.
I would still recommend this pack as a great pack, but I wouldn't recommend it over the Aether.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 65 Pack:
Let me begin with the caveat that I have only taken this pack on one trip so far: a fairly strenuous 10 miler in VA.
I can, however, definitely say that it far exceeded my expectations on that trip. 5 minutes into the hike and the pack became invisible, I didn't even notice it on my back. I took this pack with me over some pretty intense rock scrabbles and gave it some good abuse on this trip and it held up to all of it. I hope that it will continue to provide the same level of quality throughout the life of the product; it hasn't given me any indication that it won't.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 65 Pack:
I have used this pack for 3 - Training / Work Out hikes, 2 Overnighters and 2 Full Day hikes. Durring my time with the pack it has never been uncomfortable, the zippers work great and it is fairly light weight for its comfort and capacity. I have carried between 20 and 34-35 lbs depending on the usage and never felt uncomfortable. There are a couple of very small things I would change. First slight issue are the stretchy side pockets for water bottles, these should be slightly larger when the pack is not loaded this is not a problem however when full it is very tight to get a 1 liter bottle in the pockets. Second the belt straps are way to long, I do not see how you could use all this strap. I end up with around 15-18 inches of loose strap on both sides that I have to tuck in my pants pockets. As you can see these are fairly minor issues, and the pack is comfortable, fairly light weight, and so far very well built even while stretching the back pockets a bit the zippers feel very strong and secure. I feel confident this pack should last we quite a while...

Comments about Osprey Atmos 65 Pack:
I will admit, my experience with backpacks is somewhat limited. It's only been in the last few years that I have made the leap from camping to backpacking. In those years, I have purchased three packs and I must say the Atmos is by far superior to anything I have used so far. Yes, this pack is meant to carry lighter loads and it does become uncomfortable if overloaded or improperly fitted. I have had this pack for over a year and it has been on three trips in Big Bend and Lincoln national forest. The Atmos carries my gear perfectly and I am able to remain nimble on my feet without sore spots on my shoulders or back. The mesh in the back is a godsend for desert trips and I use this pack exclusively with a bladder system. I have used the side pockets for carrying water but I use this as my "camp" water- cooking, special drinks and such. There was once that I did load it close to capacity in BiBe- had to carry around 20lbs of water. It was not painful, but I could tell that I was stressing the suspension, especially on the first day. Once some of the water was consumed, it went back to being the most well-behaved and best-feelin pack ever. On another note, I do believe that getting the right fit is paramount. I purchased the female counterpart for my wife and after a couple of trips, we realized that she indeed needs the small instead of the medium torso size. The above mentioned trip was *ahem* not a good trip for her... Overall, I have recommended this pack to my friends with no reservations except for those that enjoy winter trips and we don't exactly get winter conditions in the southwest. Osprey makes superior products and it's obvious all over this backpack.

Comments about Osprey Atmos 65 Pack:
I am 6'4" and weigh 190lbs. I originally ordered the large size as usually due to my height I need large, however this pack tends to run long so I ended up switching it for a Medium and it fits perfectly. I really like the mesh backing it keeps my back cool which prevents the usual sweat back. The best thing about this pack is the comfort level. The longest distance I have used it for so far is 10 miles at one time thus far. My shoulders were not tired or sore and my back felt great as well so I am confident that it will be good for longer distances this summer.
Lastly the Almighty Guarantee is unbeatable.
