Comments about Osprey Syncro 20 Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:
I absolutely love this pack. I recently switched to commuting by bicycle to work every day and I needed a compact pack that could fit a change of clothes, iPad, etc. I have a larger Osprey backpack and am addicted to the "airspeed" mesh backing that keeps the pack from resting directly on your back. Instead there is always a buffer that air can pass through. Sadly, very few of Osprey's smaller packs utilize this construction, instead they all use "airscape" which I feel doesn't work as well.
The 20 is the largest size in the Syncro line, and I bought it on a whim, not sure if it would fit all of things I typically bring into work. Here's a typical list:
- Change of clothes (slacks, collared shirt, socks, undershirt, underwear, belt)
- iPad
- Keys
- Blackberry (sadly)
- Bike Lock
- and sometimes, lunch
It can fit it all comfortably, and has 3 separate compartments with zippers so you can put things in different places without having to resort to stuffing it all in one place.
Great pack, highly recommended.

Comments about Osprey Syncro 20 Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:
I purchased this pack with the intent of getting away from Camelbak, and into the Osprey market of cycling hydration packs. I own 6 other Osprey packs - and each is exceptional in its own genre. So, with that said - it was a huge disappoint/let down for me, after putting in several rides with the Syncros 20.
What it does well - it does extremely well... the problem is - it does very little well. The raised back panel is both its key point, and its nemesis. The raised panel really does a) keep you much cooler, b) handles a larger load exceptionally well - almost to well (you can easily over pack this thing with too much weight).
This is my first experience with the Hydraform reservoir - and I will say, likely my last. Yes, it absolutely is much much easier to place into the pack than any of the many Camelbak packs/bladders I've owned over the years... but in my opinion that is about the only leg it has up on Camelbak (CB). The reservoir opening isn't nearly as large as the CB. About the only time its easier to fill than the CB is when you are either filling directly from the faucet, or poring a bottle of something (and that is a very marginally better due to the handle vs. the large tab on the CB mouth). The very narrow profile makes it much more difficult to use things like ice, and supplements needing scoops of stuff. If you happen to have a water filtration system on your fridge - you can forget about placing the Hydraform under it to fill. Its just too bulky to easily handle in such a manner. Cleaning and drying are a royal P.I.T.A. with the Hydraform (again part in due to what I'd describe as a very narrow profile and limited sized opening).
While the magnetic bite valve piece in theory is awesome - in actuality, I found it more cumbersome to deal with than the good ol' reliable clip on the CB packs. It easily gets pulled from the magnet with too much vibration going downhill, and snags on "everything" too easily. Having also been testing a new CB Charge LR at the same time as the Syncros 20 - I can honestly say - I'd take the old CB clip fix any time. My last two cents about the bite valve. I can honestly say - I've never needed to replace one on any CB I've ever ridden with, going as far back as the original MULE. I couldn't imagine being able to make it one whole year/season without needing to replace the Hydraform. It appeared to be extremely soft and weak in design.
By a long shot - the defining issue with the Syncro 20 for me was the absolute lack of inability to stabilize any size load, let alone a large one. This is something that cannot be duplicated in any manner other than getting out there on a bike, going any direction other than uphill. As soon as you are placed into a standard cycling posture - with the slightest of variable terrain... the Osprey is ALL OVER the place. I tried many/several different methods in trying to secure this thing better, but all to no avail. I tried large loads/small loads, compression straps/no compression, packing in various different ways, tightening the waist belt/loosening the waist belt (which IMO - if you are going to put one of these quasi-useless things on a pack.... you might as well make it functional - and at 40mm in thickness, the Syncros 20 did that very well). No matter what I tried - this thing was all over the place on my back, as stated above on any section of trail other than when I was climbing (which is the single place where this pack shines! the sensation of having anything on your back vanishes completely).
I'm sure there are others that will absolutely love this pack, and that's all good, but for the above mentioned reasons... I'm going to say I would not recommend it to others that might find similar points of contention a deal killer.
As of now... for me, the Camelbak Charge LR is an exceptional pack! There's not a ride that I've done since picking it up from REI - where I had anything other than praise for it!

Comments about Osprey Syncro 20 Hydration Pack - 100 fl. oz.:
I have owned at least 5 different Camelbaks over the years, and I love their products. I was recently looking to get a larger Camelbak, and I ran across the Ospreys. I am blown away with the features that they possess! I love the Air Speed suspension, It makes a huge difference in keeping your back cool! The other huge benefit to this pack is the light wire frame that keeps the pack's shape. I always needed to adjust my straps on the Camelbaks as the water or load level changed. The Osprey keeps it's same shame on your back no matter how loaded it is! I also think the Osprey bladder is superior. The bladder also keeps its shape which also makes the pack more comfortable. The only negative is the hose that is provided can kink easily, but I fixed that by replacing it with one of my insulated Camelbak hoses and added a quick connect port so I can easily use my water purifier. The magnetic bite valve is genius, no more bite valve hitting my leg as I peddle!
