These are amazingly comfortable and well made. The ergonomic design is not just a sales gimmick. The hidden zipper allows these to be worn without concern of strange appearance. I have wor hem at work and at play. This is my first Kuhl purchase and I will be coming back for more.

Comments about Kuhl Liberator Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
These pants are really just to look good around town. After the third day below the rim in Grand Canyon I was hunched over in the tent sewing the seat back together. The material had more signs of wear than my boots. It is nearly impossible to get to the pockets with your pack on if you have a hip belt. The magazine reviews were way off on these. The fit is good and they look hip but what's the point if they don't stand up in the backcountry? These are going back as soon as possible...would have been today but REI closed on Easter.

Comments about Kuhl Liberator Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
I've only worn these on a couple of extended hikes, so can't comment on their durability. I was a bit skeptical of Backpacker Magazine's award/rating, because it seems like it is more into marketing than backpacking at times, and the price on these was a bit hard to swallow even with a discount coupon. That said, these pants are super comfortable on the trail. With the leg-bottoms on or off the pants do not impede walking—the slight stretch in the fabric makes a difference. The fabric feels nice, dries fast, and blocks wind pretty well. Even with the leg-bottoms on you can open the side zip pockets and get noticeable ventilation because the lining of all the pockets is very breathable. I found the zip-off legs a little bit of a hassle to remove/put on over my size 12 boots, but I expect they are about as good as it gets without going to baggier legs or full length zippers. In brief, I like them so far, and if they hold up after extended use, I'd recommend them with no hesitation. (I wish the rear had thicker fabric, because granite is pretty unforgiving.)

Comments about Kuhl Liberator Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
I was looking for a replacement for my worn out REI Mojave pants and these don't quite do it. The material has a medium thickness, more substantial than the REI Sahara pants. The material is comfortable and has a more sporty feel. The waist, crotch, and thighs run tight. I am typically a 33 and the 34 waist was way to small in all three areas. The side zip cargo pockets are fairly small and open to the back, not the top. They are placed on the front of the thighs which is a strange place for a large cell phone or wallet to fit. It does have thinner pockets for small phones on the side that would work OK although the do not close. The front pockets are shallow and made of fairly stretchy material, not sure how they would hold up for keys. I was looking for a pair of pants to wear around town and these are not the ones. If you are looking for a stictly hiking convertible pant they would be good if you don't carry bulky items in the cargo pockets. Order at least one size larger than you are used to.

Comments about Kuhl Liberator Convertible Pants - Men's 32" Inseam:
This is more detail based on my review pro/con summary provided by REI to explain my rating.
Pros: comfy, decent fit and looks like it is pretty durable (both for hiking and campsite use.
Cons:
Pockets are very shallow, and tight. Hard to fit my most essential carry items conveniently (compass, fire steel, lip balm, and other small trinkets like this).
The "big" pockets are zippered in along the main outer seam (i.e. vertical, along leg). For me, this is super inconvenient, and not ergonomic. I had to bend down and around in a strange contortion to access these pockets). Then the pocket falls vertically to the knee, creating a huge dead space. I thought I lost my headlamp and finally found it with my car keys by my inside part of the knee. This would not feel good with a 30 pound bag on your back. I only tried these at a car camp site and could not stand the pockets.
This ended it for me. Other small items follow.
"Big" pockets too small and tight. I cannot carry my beanie cap and map to access quickly. These I always carry in my pockets for quick access.
No quick access zipper pocket for camera, keys, etc. I like to carry my camera handy, but zipped up so it does not fall out. Not doable with these.
No belt included. You need to provide one to carry a knife/similar, or to even fine tune the fit (31, 33, etc waist sizes.) One size does not fit all waists perfectly.
Pants leg zippers are not color coded. Not a big deal, but just makes life a bit easier. Others have them...
These pants look like convertible pants. The seams are visible a mile away. Not a huge deal, but i would like them covered on the outside, none the less.
Finally, the zippers are metal. Again, not a big deal, but they are constructed so that they are on the outside of all seams (see above). This is only a pet peeve, but the first trip (and only one) with these pants, I kept hearing a weird click. Turned out the zipper and my hiking pole kept hitting. Not a huge killer, just kind of annoying trying to figure out where that strange sound was coming from.
I would pass on this one. Check out the North Face Paramount Peak or REI Sahara pants for pockets, belts, etc to see what I mean. Try them on too, don't just buy on line. Thats my 2 cents.
Thanks for reading. Happy Trails!
