Comments about REI Monorail Sling Bag:
Now, let's begin by stating that by no means, when I saw this bag, was I going to use it as a travel bag, primarily. This bag, when I saw it, screamed, "EDC Bag!" Although I do use it for travel, once in a blue moon, I find myself using it on a more practical basis than what it was intended for. That aside, let's take a look at the bag, shall we?
The first thing you'll notice is the material. The nylon is made by CORDURA Brand Fabrics. Now, this bag is classified as a lightweight bag, in both durability and strength. I have to disagree. First of all, even though I haven't had this bag for an extended period of time, I've put this thing through Hell. It's been brushed across rough surfaces, had a blade drug across it with moderate pressure (Faulty latch on my knife when tucking it away), been raked across sharp, jagged metal, etc. Lightweight? No way! This bag took it like a champ! Not even a scratch, so far.
Another thing you'll notice about the material is, although highly durable, the fabric will pick up dust, debris, and pet hair like nobody's business. Carrying a lint roller is probably a good idea, especially with all the space that the bag offers. The fabric on the "back" (The side that rests on your back) of the bag is thick, and during a warm day, your back will sweat. Now, there are grooves in the foam that allow the bag to breath, but I think REI could have worked a little more on this feature. It's not entirely terrible, however, and does a fair job at keeping you dry.
Speaking of space. This bag offers quite a bit of space, however, it is a little smaller than it looks. The bag will begin to stretch and space out as you add items, and everything fits nicely when said and done. The inside could have used a couple of pockets, aside from the laptop sleeve, but that's a minor issue. The all around padding is a nice feature, and adds to the durability of the bag. I have yet to figure out the meaning of the carry handle and "quick" access to items, but again, another minor issue.
The outer pockets, and sleeves, are really nice. Everything mirrors itself, except for the "Gadget" pocket, which zips in one direction. Being in the middle, however, hardly raises a concern. All zippers, outside of the main ones, have zipper tucks, which I like in a bag. While wearing the bag, your right organizational pocket features your loops for pens, an elastic liner pocket, and plenty of space for small items. Your left contains your key-put, an elastic mesh pocket and an equal amount of space. The padded "Gadget" (Center) pocket could use some work, but will safely carry your small gadgets and electronics, among other things.
The uni-sling strap is a nice addition, even though there will be a "breaking in" period. The sling is thick, very much so, but will conform to your shoulder after multiple uses. The waist strap is universal, and the velcro clasp can be attached on either side of the bag. When carrying a heavier load, the waist strap is a God-send and adds a lot of comfort to the bag.
The usage I've put this bag through proves that this "lightweight" can endure the hardships of everyday life, and then some. If you're looking for a durable, reliable, and all around tough bag for your travels, look no further than the REI Monorail Sling bag!

Comments about REI Monorail Sling Bag:
I researched every sling pack on the market. There are no other sling packs out there that even compare to this one. The styling and construction is far superior to any others, hands down. I didn't realize that it came with a waist strap which is an added bonus. REI went over the top on their design and quality of this stylish and versatile pack. The neoprene pocket on the inside, can also be used to hold a water bladder. The padding is perfect and well ventilated on your back. The strap will not slip off your shoulder. It is wide and comfortable with a convenient handle on the top. I am very impressed! Thank you REI, you did it again.

Comments about REI Monorail Sling Bag:
Going on both regional and international trips this year and needed a bag to carry both my ultrabook, tablet and accessories. This bag sits close to the body and is extremely comfortable. I have arthritis in my neck and shoulders, so for anyone needing extra comfort for long trips through airports, cities and towns- this is a great bag!!
