Comments about The North Face Angstrom 30 Pack:
I love this backpack for its light weight, and great versatility.
--disclaimer - I own last year's version.
I sometimes carry a laptop and some other items to work, but I don't really throw a lot of stuff in it - I don't feel it was designed to carry heavy loads (probably the TNF Surge backpack might me more adequate if you need to carry a lot of stuff).
Most of the times, I use it when I run or bike to work, and that's where it shines. I tighten the shoulder straps and belt, and just go. It breathes well and hugs the body well too. Same thing on the bike, when you want to go fast, it doesn't feel like it is dragging you at all.
I guess this would also be a great fastpacking backpack.
If mine was stolen/lost, i'd immediately get another, I love it!!!

Comments about The North Face Angstrom 30 Pack:
I use this bag for school and I like it, but I have some complaints. First and foremost the shoulder straps are too thin and poorly padded. When you add a heavy laptop and a few textbooks the straps dig into your shoulders. Also the water bottle pouches on the sides need to be bigger and taller. I feel like my 32 oz nalgene is going to fall out all the time. The stretchy front pocket is basically useless because anything you put in there just takes space away from the inside pockets. Also this compartment does not have a drain at the bottom and will theoretically collect water in the rain. I do like the bungee cords on the outside; I often weave my rain coat through them. The hip belt feels flimsy and a bit cheap. The stretchy material on the chest strap frayed a bit almost instantly.
I do really like the sturdy back panel, it gives a good feeling. I also like the inch or two of space between the bottom of the laptop compartment and the bottom of the pack. This protects the laptop from impact if you drop the pack on the ground.
For my purposes this bag is a bit small. I usually try to stuff in a notebook and two textbooks along with my 15 inch laptop, and it is really pushing the boundaries of how much it can hold. I sometimes wish I had gone with a 35 liter or something a bit bigger.
overall a good pack, but for the money you can do better.
