I wanted a longer "cargo" type short this summer, for maximum functionality, and I ran into these at REI. I love them. I really dislike the silky nylon/poly fabric that has infiltrated outdoor wear, so these jumped out at me from the rack. These are a mid-weight cotton with a touch of stretch. I usually wear a 6 but I got them in an 8 and they fit slim (not tight) at first, then they are looser by the end of the day, but not falling off my hips loose. If you want them to stay tight get your regular size. They have washed beautifully, and fit the same as the first day. Lots of pockets for phone, cards/cash, keys. Typical sweet Prana comfort--good mid-rise fit. I am 5'8" and they hit just above my knee.
