Comments about Mountain Hardwear Petra Pants - Women's - 2011 Closeout:
Love Mountain Hardware and was excited to try these out on our most recent Backpacking trip. Pants held up great and were comfortable to wear all day. However at the end of our trip when I pulled off my pack I realized that the sizing buttons (made to make the waist size adjustable) sit right under the hip belt of my pack. I had button hole blisters from the hip belt pushing the buttons against my skin. Would definitely wear these pants hiking or traveling but not backpacking again.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Petra Pants - Women's - 2011 Closeout:
First outing with these pants was a very muddy and rainy hike. At the trailhead, I was worried that I had forgotten my gaitors. No worries! While my fellow hikers (with gaitors) were covered in mud in no time, my pants looked like I hadn't taken a step. The surface of these pants shed water and mud, yet remain breathable. They fit and stretch well for easy movement. At 5'4, 115 lbs, size 2 fits perfectly. Got the tan ones, wish I had gotten the black too, before they were all gone. These will make great travel pants, since the fit is so nice. The roll-up cuff is a little weird,so probably won't use that feature except in extreme heat.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Petra Pants - Women's - 2011 Closeout:
Bought these in both a 4 and a 6. 5"7" and 122 lbs. Size 4 fit perfectly through the body, nice slim fit - the problem was that they were about an inch too short. Size 6 can be cinched in with the inner elastic at the waist, but the fit through the hips and butt is baggier. Doesn't look quite as nice. However, I hate wearing flood pants. It would be ideal if MH made pants in a 'long' version for slimmer people. Ended up keeping the 6, because I can make them work, but would have been happier with the 4 if they were a bit longer.
Fabric is great with a bit of stretch. I like the option of being able to roll them up to capri length and snap.

I like to hike and rock climb, but I bought them to also wear to work. The black ones look pretty nice. A size 4 fits me well and I'm 5'2" 120 lb, though petite would probably be ideal. My only complaint is that they swish audibly with each step.

Comments about Mountain Hardwear Petra Pants - Women's - 2011 Closeout:
My first pair of Mountain Hardwear was Yuma zipoff hiking pants, which is one of the most popular hiking pants among female hikers (I always bump into other female hikers wearing the same pants on the trail). They are great but they are not so slick looking off the trail.
Since I need a pair to do double duty, traveling and hiking, i decided to get the Petra in soft black. The stone green color makes the pants look very outdoorsy.
I am 5'4" 115lb and size 2 is PERFECT. The waist is slightly below the belly button and between 25 to 26" is not tight nor loose. This is important because there's no string tie, unlike the Yuma pants. There's no soft micro fiber material used for the inside of the waist band, unlike the Yuma.
The black is a soft black, not dense. Light color dirt and chulk will show but won't bother me because I don't rock climb.
The material is thicker and stiffer than most travel pants. They will hold up the shape better. Also the material is super stretch (for climbing) therefore they are very comfortable and move with you.
The leg opening is not tight and the hem is slightly bell out. Usually I buy petite but the Petra's length is great that it'd cover the shoes well (tried with flats, trail runners, and wedges) and not too long where I have to hem it.
There are two pockets in the front, not hidden but show with stitching. There's a 3rd small zipped pocket on the right side below the regular pocket. There's no back pocket.
There are tabs to shorten the pants to 3" above the ankle. Not the most attractive length when paired with socks and trail/urban hiking shoes but should do OK with flip flops or sandals.
They are not the most polished looking pants but they will do with a nice top and jacket when you need pants for double duty while travling.

I hope the closeout sale on these pants does not mean that they are being discontinued! I now own 5 pairs of these - stashing them away in case they are not made any more. These are the BEST! Fit is excellent, gusseted crotch makes climbing and hiking easy. Waist stays put under a backpack. Fabric doesn't look hard core but trust me, these things went through two summers of bushwacking in Alaska, Trekked up Kilimanjaro, and then went for 2 weeks backpacking in the Grand Canyon with all its gear shredding rock and they look brand new! I love these and would recommend them to anyone. Nice job Mountain Hardwear.
