- Lightweight nylon fabric dries quickly and resists pilling, and is easy to pack away in a backpack
- With a UPF 50+ rating, fabric provides excellent protection against harmful ultraviolet rays
- Fabric is treated with a Durable Water Repellent finish to repel moisture and stains
- Pleated cargo pockets with rip-and-stick flap closures offer ample space for trail and travel items; a zippered pocket on the left side secures essentials
- 2 front hand pockets (1 has an inner coin pocket), 1 rear zippered pocket and 1 rear rip-and-stick pocket provide additional storage

These pants would not be usable for cold-weather wear without a first layer underneath and water-resistant layer or wind-breaker layer over them, but they are ideal for vigorous activity with those additional garments, or for hiking in warm weather by themselves. I have not really tested them for durability (brambles, rocks, etc.), but they seem sturdy.

The pocket system was the biggest downfall. The velcrow system of one part being horizontal and the other being vertical does not work well. It is too east to rub against it and open the pocket after a couple uses/washes. If the vertical part was thicker, I believe it would work better. The concept is good, but the application is not.
The second comment is that though the waist fits well to the size, the pant legs are very balloon-like. The thigh segments are huge, while the calf segments thin out.

I have gone through two sets of these pants in just about as many years. The stitching in the crotch area is not durable at all. I wear these mainly as causal pants and the threads in the crotch have worn away in both pants. At the price you pay for these, you would expect many years of wearability. REI was very good at replacing the first pair at no cost to me but now that I do not live near a REI store, I have no way to take these back as well. If you want more than a couple years of use out of a pair of pants, do not buy these light weight pants. You will get a great pair of breathable, packable pants that feel light as a feather but at the sacrifice of a more durable fabric and construction.

I have 3 pairs of these pants. I use these pants for many activities...from hiking and camping in all weather types to working around the house and in the yard.
They are durable, yet light weight. They wick moisture in the summer and dry quickly. Lots of pockets for storage. Some velcro holding pockets closed is on the small side (one of the back pockets has a very small piece of velcro that will not stay closed with a wallet inside).
The only 'con' about these pants is the off-the-shelf length...it was too long. Thanks goodness my wife is handy at her sewing machine.

The pants are pretty nice. They did fit a little on the big side but I bought them in-store so I had the luxury of trying them on first. I ended up with one size smaller and one size shorter than I normally buy.
The included belt is just about worthless if you wear it for anything other than looks. It is narrow with a plastic snap closure. I ripped it off and threw it away.
My only real complaint is that the materials over the knees is the same lightweight blend as the rest of the pants and there are no knee pad pockets so if you kneel on just about anything, you definitely feel it. I am usually pretty rough on the knee panels, so we will see how they hold up.
The MSRP is a bit on the high side for pants with these features but not by much. Luckily I got them on sale so I can't complain.
