Ideal for short roofs or sedans, the RocketBox Pro 12 roof box builds on a tried-and-true Yakima classic by offering access to your gear from both sides of your vehicle, with the push of a button.
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Rated4out of5byKurtVAfromSolid, simple performanceThis product is relatively easily mounted by one person, although two people make it a snap. It's so easy to use you really don't need intstructions. It provides that little bit of extra, dry space for those things you can't squeeze in your vehicle.

Rated5out of5bymdnaturegirlfromGive yourself extra space! We needed the extra room for our gear. After much exploring, we ended up at REI. So glad that we went there. Staff was very professional. Spoke with us about our needs and vehicle to make sure we had correct unit. Sales Associate took cargo carrier out of the box and explained how to use the item. Carrier is light weight. We used it for our vacation in August and had no problems or concerns!

Rated1out of5byCanyon HikerfromTerrible Product.this was the first time I had ever used a "cargo Box" cartop carrier. Unfortunately, because of the rear radio antenna on my SUV - I had to settle for the Yakima rocketbox Pro 12. It was difficult to put on top of the car/the right side lock was difficult to operate and then subsequently broke internally whereby only one side would open. The front of the Cargo Box came open while traveling on I-40, two of my pillows were ruined as it was raining at the time, water and road grit don't mix. My 11 year old grand daughter said it right - She called it "POJ" A piece of Junk ! We had nothing but problems with it and wound up securing it with Bungee Cords so that the lid stayed shut. Even the REI people admitted that other people have reported problems with this particular model. My wife spent half of our vacation stressed up/looking up thru our sun roof to see if it was coming open or was staying on the car ! I stopped to tighten the screw down wing nut clamps on the inside at least 10 X during our 2 week trip. What a terrible product, Never again!

Rated4out of5bysuperbellmanfromMakes a small car biggerI bought the rocket box for use with my 2012 Focus for carrying camping gear. The quality is better than other boxes in the price rang and is easy to take on and off. Being able to access the contents from either side is a great feature. There is some wind wander from strong cross winds but not to bad, and it is aerodynamic. I had it shipped to the store to save 60$ shipping and was advised to call the store for pre-assemble prior to pickup, which I did. I was told when I picked it up no assembly was required. Assembling the unit in the parking lot in cold windy weather with picture only instructions for the first time was not fun. The assembly I admit was easy once you have done it once, but I would advise insisting on pre-assembly or taking it home in the shipping carton and doing it in your garage.

Rated3out of5byTravelingRTfromRain water insideSo after reading a few reviews I am in the same position as others with rain water inside, a small amount but still make me only load items that are sealed or water proof.
The box was closed properly the flaw is the gap in the front that allows the top lid to raise up and allow water to seep in.
Yakima needs to improve or re-do the construction.

Rated2out of5byBluBorderfromStrike 2I had to return the first RocketBox because I could not open the lock on the right side of the box. Neither could the REI specialist. Now the replacement RocketBox is having problems and will not lock or unlock on the left side without a lot of fiddling with the lock, pushing on the box cover, etc. The lock on the right side does not exhibit this problem. The key does not remove from the lock cylinder when the lock is in the unlocked position, I think this is normal. I will likely return this product and shop for something that is more reliable.

Rated5out of5byTP in OregonfromLove it!I read a few negative reviews on here about this model, but haven't found any of them to be true based on my expereience. Yes, the material is very light weight, it's designed to be. ABS plastic is very strong and light, exactly what you want for such an application. I've been driving with this on for hundreds of miles and have had no issue with leaking or the front lip/gap forming, as some people have reported. I think for those folks, it may have to do with how the rack is configured on the roof. My RocketBox sits on the rack with the rear elevated about 1-2 inches higher than the front, and I think this makes the difference, especially at high speeds. Amazed how much stuff I can pack into this thing....would highly recommend!

Rated3out of5byBristol NavigatorfromDoes what it says.We used the roof box for a two week road/camping trip this summer (2012). With my wife and two children we needed the extra room for our luggage and camping gear. We stored our camping gear in the roof box so we only had to access it when we were setting up or taking down on the camp site, and it worked well except the catch was not very positive and I wasn't always sure that the lid was secure. However it wasn't possible to lock the box, or remove the key until the lid was secured, so I wasn't ever a worry that the box would fly open whilst driving along.
