Comments about REI Thorofare Jacket - Men's:
This Jacket has a lot of potential and was stoked when I saw it. I think this is a great jacket if you are wearing a longer shirt underneath it. If you're wearing a short sleeve and expect this to be a great wear, I'd warn against that way of thinking.
The Water resistant treatment isn't best suited for the type of fabric they used for the jacket. If they were to use that type of treatment and then put a liner of of Cool-Max or some other type of wicking material it would be the best!
Unfortunately, the way it stands now the internal of the jacket is stiff and scratchy and isn't comfortable, especially around the elbows. So, if you're going to wear only long sleeved shirts with this then I'd recommend it to you. If you are going to be wearing short sleeved shirts, I would not recommend it.

Comments about REI Thorofare Jacket - Men's:
I had actually been looking for a little more stylish jacket to wear when hitting happy hour downtown with my friends but I've always struggled with spending a bunch of money on something that is more for looks that function. This jacket has fully met my needs guilt free. I used my 20% coupon and that brings the price down to a fully reasonable [$]! Living in Portland I love that it's nylon and dries fairly quickly unlike the cotton jackets I was thinking about. It also has been very sturdy for me. It's a very handsome jacket that fits in great with my uppity friends Bridge and Tunnel $400 jackets. Couple of notes: I'm 6 foot 2 inches tall- arm length is great but if the back was an inch or two shorter it might be too short. I probably won't take this camping anytime soon- not because it wouldn't be fine but because I have several tech jackets that already get beat up and smell like campfire. I'd like to keep this jacket in great shape for now. One more thing- I read a couple of people mention that they wish this jacket had a liner. I'm glad it doesn't. I don't mind layering and if this jacket had a liner it might make it useless for warm spring days. Over all I think this jacket is just right and when considering the price it's unbeatable! I would like to see REI brand more 'urban' yet technical clothing.

I already said nice things about this jacket (scroll up) but I just came back from a trip to Vegas and wanted to add that this is a killer travel jacket. Put it on before you go to the airport. Then before you get to security you can all your pocket items (wallet, change, keys, etc) into the two big zippered side pockets and the two smaller chest pockets. Then just take the whole thing off, dump it in a bin, easy as pie. It also works well as an indoor jacket while strolling around the casinos. The sleeves unsnap and roll up to your elbows, keeping you from overheating and adding a slightly preppy air to your ensemble.

Comments about REI Thorofare Jacket - Men's:
This is a nice lightweight jacket. It has a good looking style. I like all the pockets. The zippers seem like high-quality zippers --- run smooth and don't snag.
It's cut for a trim build. The medium is just right in the sleeves and it comes to the right length on the waist, but it is just a little bit snug in the shoulders and belly on me, although not uncomfortable. The large is too big in all directions. I can layer the medium over a lightweight merino pullover, but not much more than that.
I think I would have liked some kind of inner lining. The jacket is just the one layer of fabric that forms the shell, with nothing lining it on the inside. This means the jacket is very lightweight, but it is also not very warm on its own. It's sort of a stylish windbreaker with great pockets.
I bought this jacket for a trip I am taking to Italy. I originally was going to bring a more technical rain layer and a layer for warmth, but I decided I might want to have something more stylish than my backpacking rain shell. I went to REI to check out the REI Edgewood Travel Jacket. I saw this Thorofare jacket and thought it was a bit better looking than the Travel Jacket and much more lightweight. So I got this one instead, thinking all I really needed was a lightweight jacket with some water resistance for spring/summer weather, and I could layer if for warmth if need be. Now I'm seeing weather reports that are calling for very cool winter-like temps and rain showers, so I'm wondering if this was the best choice, given the conditions. The travel jacket is waterproof, has a lining, and has a removable hood, while the Thorofare has a DWR finish, no lining, and no hood. This may be one of the rare times I've let style trump function.
Anyway, regardless of whether or not I actually end up bringing the jacket to Italy, I'm keeping it. I like it for what it is, even if it might not be perfect for the trip. I'll definitely get good use out of it.

I just got this jacket with my coupon/dividend etc. and I love it. I'm only giving it 4 stars because it is not the ultimate jacket. It's not waterproof, although I imagine it'll resist a light rain fairly well, it's not windproof, although it cuts it down a reasonable amount, it's just not one of those super technical jackets.
However, it feels light and comfortable, looks fairly stylish (in a low key rumpled way), and just is a great jacket to take with you everywhere around town. It seems best for temps in the 50s and 60s but stick a layer underneath and it'll go down to the 40s. I like the nice number of pockets too.

I purchased this jacket spontaneously while shopping in store for backpacking gear, because of the good look and features. I think this will make a great travel jacket.

Comments about REI Thorofare Jacket - Men's:
I've bought size mediums that ran a bit small before, but I couldn't even get both arms into this one. I actually checked to see if it was a children's style.
Returning for a much larger size.
Service and delivery comments:
Everything about the jacket was fine, except it was ridiculously small.
