I am picky when it comes to gear. After trying many shells, the REI west pass got my vote. Im slender with long arms, so I think the designers at REI built this jacket just for me. Good Job Guys! The other great feature is the noise free, anti-plastic feel. As the description says "buttery". NICE. I cant speak on performance yet but I'm sure this will handle casual recreational hikes and light rains very well. The hood adjusts nicely where alot of other jackets feel to baggy and only blow off in wind. The tag says: inside pocket and mesh pit zips which are not true. These features would have made this jacket out of this world. 95% awesome.

Comments about REI West Pass Rain Jacket - Men's:

Wore this jacket just about every day on a two week trip through New Zealand, including a hike across the Tongararo Alpine Crossing in the pouring rain.

Jacket fits great - well designed with pockets, zippers, adjustments and pit-zips all where you need them. Sleeves seem slightly longer than most jackets and I'm tall and appreciated the generous extra coverage in the rain, but shorter people may feel the urge to push them up. Velcro tabs on the hood and back of the neck for stowing the hood seem oddly placed, but that's a minor critique at worst.

Lining is incredibly soft and super comfortable against skin unlike many other lightweight rain jackets that don't breathe as well. At times I actually felt cooler after putting the jacket on, which was a welcome surprise.

This jacket stops wind like a brick wall but after six hours of hiking in the rain it did eventually saturate and some wetness may have began to seep through (hard to be sure) but for a jacket at this price point I don't think they get any better.

This is a great, stylish everyday rain jacket. I wear it around campus at my school in Seattle very often, and when going on day hikes. It is just the right weight, and if it starts to get to warm, it has the handy under-arm vents that open up nice and wide. Great Coat!
