Comments about Julbo Bivouak Photochromic Glacier Sunglasses:

Check them outside before. The glasses didn't change to a dark color enough to open my eyes with bright sun. Great for driving and mild light conditions.
I had to swicht to Julbo with protection 4 and they are great.

Comments about Julbo Bivouak Photochromic Glacier Sunglasses:

These are obviously quality glasses that fit well and are fairly lightweight. They did not get dark enough for my sensitive eyes. When they were at their lightest in medium light, they were comfortable. But in bright sunlight, they just never got dark enough for me.

Comments about Julbo Bivouak Photochromic Glacier Sunglasses:

I use these glasses for bicycling, mountaineering, climbing, skiing, sailing, and just plain driving. If there is such a thing as high-performance sunglasses, then these are it. They're comfortable and offer great protection from wind, sun, and light precipitation. They can be used in low light and bright light. I've used them on glaciated summits and trans-oceanic sailing trips. I take them on all my trips and can only complain that the case is a little bulky. Everything else is excellent.

Comments about Julbo Bivouak Photochromic Glacier Sunglasses:

These are the best glacier glasses I've ever had - and I've had MANY MANY pairs of glasses. Yes, there is no magic bullet for humidity, but these glasses gathered sweat more than fogged up - easier to deal with - and I sweat a LOT.

Never had a side shield pop off.

I first wore them on Carstenz Pyramid in Indonesia last year. Performed well. Have since worn them on 4 summits of Mt Rainier. Love the photochromic lenses.

Protection against wind is almost as good as sun - left my goggles home my last 4 times on Mt Rainier. Speaking of which, all climbs were in full sunshine, and I was perfectly comfortable light-wise - so the person who had to abort to a borrowed pair of glasses either has super sensitive eyes, or had a defective pair of glasses.

I'll be taking them with me to Bhutan, and I'm ordering a couple more pair for backup - styles change way too fast.

Comments about Julbo Bivouak Photochromic Glacier Sunglasses:

I bought these for a trip to Ecuador where I climbed several mountains above 19,000. The climbs were all on glaciers and with extreme weather and very bright light. They performed very well.

Since they are photochromic, I was able to put them on when it was still dark and use them to protect my eyes from the wind. With a headlamp on snow, visibility was still fine.

Then when the light hit, they get much, much darker and they worked perfectly on the glacier. I never felt like my eyes were exposed and never had to squint like with so many other sunglasses.

They claim to be resistant to fogging. Well, I've never really found a pair that are honestly fog resistant. When you're working hard, it's moist out, your sweating and it's cold, they do fog up. It's pretty easy to clear them by just sliding them down your nose a bit, but they aren't really anti-fog. Even after using additional anti-fog products.

The earpieces are very nice too. I must be lopsided because I've had to slightly bend one of the earpieces to keep it from rubbing on my left ear. The point is, you can do that to accomplish a very customized fit.

My one big criticism is that the side shields seem to pop off pretty easily. They are magnetic and at least one of them seems to pop off when I'm getting ready to climb. That could be REALLY bad on a glacier, but just be aware of it and you'll be fine. They are secure when the glasses are in place, it's just when putting them on or taking them off.

Since Ecuador, I've climbed with them in Colorado and on Mt. Rainier. I love them and will be taking them to Aconcagua this winter.

Comments about Julbo Bivouak Photochromic Glacier Sunglasses:

Picked these up for climbing, hiking, cycling. They worked pretty nicely for cycling but thse are absolutely NOT glacier glasses. First day on a glacier and my eyes were burning rather quickly. Couldn't summit because of it. Borrowed somebody elses reserve glacier glasses for the decent which were much better. Also somewhere one of the side protectors came off and got lost. Useless for mountain work. Avoid these for that purpose. Nice for non snow activities hence one star not zero.

Comments about Julbo Bivouak Photochromic Glacier Sunglasses:

Purchased for hiking Mt Whitney, but found them so comfortable I ended up wearing them every day. The bendable arms when straightened out are perfect for inserting into Motorcycle helmet, Quick magnetic side guards are great at keeping wind out at high speed as well. Photochromic lenses are fast acting in direct sun and dark canyons. Only part that feels cheap is the plastic ends on the strap. Best designed sunglasses I have ever found.
