My daughter is active enough and I thought she would be able to manage the sticky shifter that another review mentions......unfortunately that was not the case. Until she gets a little more wrist strength she's stuck in 3rd gear. :)

Very impressed with the look and feel of the bike. My daughter is 7 and she feels comfortable on it. However.........the sunRace? Shifters are horrible and I can't imagine diamondback actually tested these out with good results??????? We had our shifters swapped out for shimano brand and they are awesome. Don't leave the store with the stock shifters. REI was very helpful and happy to let us try the shifters out before we left home with it, since we ordered the bike online. My daughter had a hard time even turning them. I found other reviews on amazon while researching this bike, stating the same issue, so hopefully diamondback will get the point and upgrade. Otherwise, bike fits perfect, fully adjustable and not too heavy.

Gear shifter was very hard to turn for an adult and it was impossible for my nine year old to shift into 1,2, or 3rd gear.

REI service replaced the shifter with one that was more kid friendly.

Great service from REI - poor quality from Diamondback.

We bought this bike for my oldest daughter when she outgrew here first bike. That was 4 years ago and 2 kids later it is still going strong. My kids have used it on the streets and light trails by our home. The only drawback is that it only has 6 gears which in our hilly environment aren't enough for little legs. For what we spent we have gotten our moneys worth!

My daughter loves this bike, but she finds the shifter much too stiff to twist while riding. I'm very pleased with the bike's value, but I wish they'd found away to tune the shifter's tension to be more inline with the hand strength of a 5 year old.

This is a good bike. The frame design is solid and attractive. The front fork has ornamental shocks, which I could live without, but they are obviously there for aesthetics. My daughter is 5 and fairly tall for her age. The bike is just small enough that she can touch the ground while on the seat, so she should have a good number of years growing into the bike. The only problem we have is that the grip shifter is very hard for her to up shift. It takes quite a bit of hand and wrist strength. We normally have to stop and shift it for her one gear at a time. We live in a very hilly area, so this might not be as much of a problem for others. Having the gears though is a huge advantage in our situation, as she can climb some pretty good slopes with the lower gearing. With this one caveat, all-in-all it is a great bike for the price.
