After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. Comments about Marin Hamilton 29er Bike - 2012:

Picked this up a week ago at the new Soho store in NYC. I have been riding all day for the last week in the city. Up and down the West Side bike path to the GWB, then across 90th St into Central Park. I love the feel of a well balanced bike and this is one. It is solid and perhaps overbuilt, but this translates into toughness and durability, also allows racks and fenders to be installed if desired. My favorite part of this bike is however the Sturmey-Archer Kick Back rear hub which gives 2 speeds. These gears are serious, they are not baby gears. there is big and bigger. Perfect for getting a workout. The smaller gear for instance is good for peddling on flat ground into a 20mph headwind and for taking the hills in Central Park. The bigger gear is for when you get going on flat ground or are descending. The kick back mechanism has grown on me and is seamless and second nature. I love the flexibility of this bike and it's gearing. It is much better than a single speed (which I also own) yet just as clean and simple. In short, I am happy.
