Big wheels mean big fun with the Marin Palisades Trail 29er. It rolls over roots, streaks through straightaways and offers 100mm of cushy front suspension.

  • 6061 aluminum frame features triple-butted, hydroformed top and down tubes for excellent strength; seat- and chainstays are double-butted and shaped for minimal flex
  • RockShox Recon Silver Air fork offers 100mm of travel; adjust the preload the way you like or just lock it out when bumps are not an issue
  • SRAM X7 rear derailleur delivers nothing but shifting smoothness throughout the subtle variations of the 10-cog cassette; X5 front derailleur snaps across the 3 chainrings
  • Hayes hydraulic disc brakes optimize stopping power
  • Alex SX44 rims are paired with Continental Race King tires, which clear soil quickly and provide reliable performance climbing, braking and cornering all year around

After its initial break-in period you might notice your bicycle performing less responsively than the day you brought it home. Not to worry, this is typical of all new bicycles and simply reflects that cables have stretched or their housings have seated themselves into final position. To keep running at peak performance, all REI bicycles come with a FREE warranty tune-up, which should be accomplished between the first 100-200 miles of riding or after the first two months if you're accumulating miles less quickly. I use this for riding on trails around town. I'm not into heavy duty mountain biking. I also commute to/from work on it.

The 29" wheels force a larger frame and it fits me better than a typical 26" bike.

Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
