Comments about Eagle Creek Crossroads Sports Rolling Duffel - 32":
I needed a large, superlight, easy-to-pack, and durable suitcase for air travel, longer trips, and winter travel. The Brand X bag I bought for a trip last year (not carried by REI, I'm happy to say, but carried by a lot of other retailers and all discounters) fell apart on the first day, scattering bits all over the airport, so this time I went with Eagle Creek and its lifetime warranty.
It hasn't been subjected to airline abuse yet, but has been on Amtrak twice (as a checked bag, so it got rough handling), also dragged up and down quite a few staircases, and all over through snow and slush, with no sign of damage or wear.
And it's easy to pack - many of the larger duffles have odd, sloping, rounded shapes with floppy sides, making it hard to pack unless you just stuff your clothes into it the way you'd jam them into a laundry bag.
The lable on mine says it weighs 7 lbs 2 oz, lighter than what the specs say. Packed to the gills, with a week's worth of clothes and shoes plus snow boots, SLR camera, two large lenses, and a book, it weighed 46 pounds.
One more plus - most suitcases and suitcase handles have a lot of flex, so that if you roll unevenly over a curb or uneven pavement, the suitcase tends to rock back an forth, making it hard to pull and it can even tip. Not so with this bag. Maybe it's just that it's brand new, but there is no sense of "uh-oh, it's going to tip." Packing all the heavy stuff evenly along the bottom of the bag helps, but I didn't do that since I was packing around camera equipment.
There are sufficient handles in enough places so it's easy to grab the bag, whether out of the trunk of your car or off the luggage carrousel.
I only wish the exterior pocket was larger and lockable. Not really useable as is except for book, gloves, scarf, etc., and if security unzips to check the contents and forgets to zip it up again, you'd lose whatever was in there. Maybe it's intended for passport & ticket, but that's a bit risky, those items should be on you, not behind you.
