The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Novara Pixie 20'' 6-Speed Bike - 2013:
My 7 year old daughter was not strong enough to shift to the two largest cogs using the grip shifters and could not climb the local hills with the bike set to the largest cog (28 teeth).
I installed component upgrades that make the bike usable for her. The *retail* price difference between the stock parts and the upgrades I chose is small. I hope that REI adopts these changes to make the Pixie a much more usable bike.
I heartily recommend the following upgrades.
Shimano ST-EF40-7 7-Speed RapidFire Shifter, Shimano MF-TZ31 14-34T 7-speed freewheel, Shimano RD-TX35 7-speed derailleur, KMC Z72 chain and Kenda K841 tires for paved surfaces.
Check to see if your REI bike shop would be willing to swap out these components at the time of sale for the difference in parts and labor. The retail parts price difference between stock and these upgrades is small. However, I installed these upgrades after the fact which is more expensive. The bike tools I had to get were a Shimano TL-FW30 Freewheel Remover and a Lezyne Chain Drive Chain Breaker Tool. My labor rate is ... slow. Maybe a pro could swap these components in an hour.
Some other parts I added are SKS Rowdy Kid's Fenders, Mirrycle Incredibell Original Bicycle Bell, Zefal Bicycle Spy Mirror, Fuelbelt Aero Fuelbox (or a Timbuk2 Goody Box Top Tube Pack if more room is needed)

Comments about Novara Pixie 20'' 6-Speed Bike - 2013:
I just got this bike a few days ago at our local REI for my 7 year old and she's LOVING it. She learned to ride on a 12" bike and I'm ashamed to say she was still riding it despite it being very small for her. We went in to look at bikes not sure if she'd need a 16" or 20" bike (she's on the small side for 7), and then not sure if she needed gears or not if we went with the 20". Because we live in the country and not in a neighborhood and she mostly rides in the yard (grass) I'm glad I opted for this model over the single speed.. she has no trouble at all riding around in the lowest gear, which I'm not sure she'd have been able to do as easily on the single speed. So far we are very happy with the purchase and I'm confident it's a bike she will enjoy for several years to come.

Got this for my daughters 8th birthday. She said it was the greatest present ever. In 2 months she has logged over 70 miles without a single problem.

Comments about Novara Pixie 20'' 6-Speed Bike - 2013:
This is a great little bike. It came mostly setup already. I did need to adjust the wheel hub bearings as they were way too tight. Otherwise it was an easy setup and the bike works great. My daughter is having a hard time adjusting to the stopping power of the V-brakes. She is used to the coaster brakes so this is understandable. The bike shifts easy and the front shock actually seems solid. I'm very impressed with this bike!

My daughter is loving this bike. She is almost 6 & had outgrown her kiddie bike. It took her a few tries to balance the larger bike, but now she is a pro!

Comments about Novara Pixie 20'' 6-Speed Bike - 2013:
The 2012 Pixie has great improvements over previous year models. V brakes are improved. Front fork shocks are highly beneficial. If you're budget is an aluminum frame (lower cost) & 20" is your target, it's a top contender, unless your child is a BMX tournament rider.
