The Backcountry Access Float 18 Avalanche Airbag pack features an inflatible airbag that is designed to keep you at or near the surface of the snow during an avalanche.

Pull the trigger located on the right shoulder strap to deploy the airbag; airbag inflates in 3 sec. and is positioned so that it won't interfere with your vision or movement
Float 18 uses a compressed air cylinder to inflate the 150 liter airbag; after deployment, cylinder must be refilled by Backcountry Access or an authorized retail location
Backpack comes with an empty cylinder that needs to be filled before use

Airbag is designed to not only help prevent burial, but also protect the head, neck and upper body from trauma
18 liter (1,010 cu. in.) capacity has enough space for rescue tools, lunch, water, skins and some extra clothes; great for out-of-bounds skiing and short backcountry trips
Dedicated pockets hold your shovel blade, shovel handle and avalanche probe (all sold separately)
Includes straps for carrying skis diagonally; an optional snowboard attachment accessory can be purchased separately from Backcountry Access
Zippered pockets on the waistbelt keep energy gels and bars within reach
Backcountry Access recommends wearing the included leg straps to ensure the Float 18 backpack stays securely attached to your body during airbag deployment in an avalanche

Comments about Backcountry Access Float 18 Avalanche Airbag Pack:

Im really happy with my float 18. Its great for what I am trying to do. I ski a lot of sidecountry and shorter days in the backcountry. I've gone out and toured a bunch of days with it already this season. Its big enough to hold a lunch, water bottle, extra layer, probe, shovel, and skins on the descent. If your doing longer days in the backcountry or like to carry more gear I could see throwing down for the Float 30 or 36 but the float 18 is a perfect size for me. Its relatively light considering it has a airbag, air cylinder, and ejector in it. I really like the way the waist buckle works. Its a bit like a seatbelt system where one metal piece fits into the other. Its really simple and seems to be very strong. The diagonal ski carry is really awesome too. My fatty skis fit well and you can cinch them up really tight so there isn't any wobble. Overall I'm super stoked on the pack and can't wait to use it more this season.
