The design is good. Very sturdy and light weight which was a huge plus. Also, as it was on sale when I bought it, that made the deal all that sweeter. The shoe above the ankle goes up to 6 inches. This, in my opinion was a good height.
The only downside was the fit. I normally wear a US9, and it was a good idea to get a 1/2 size larger. Though the fit was still a little too snug with a pair of causual socks. Hence, I would recommend getting at least getting one size to 1.5 sizr larger just to be safe.

After reading the prior review, I hesitated ordering this boot, but I ordered it knowing that I could return it to an REI store and save return shipping costs. I too wear a size 10.5 but I ordered a size 11 to increase the possibility of a good fit. I have a wide foot and often have to have the toe box stretched at a boot shop. After replacing the insole with a high quality insole and while wearing a sock liner plus a mid weight sock, the boot fit was very comfortable. Don't let the prior review stop you from trying this winter boot.

I can't comment on how these boots perform because after putting them on the first time I knew right away they would be impossible to wear.
My size is 10.5. This is a size that works for me with virtually all footwear, but not the Yetis. The toe boxes are so narrow I wonder what sort of biped they were designed for. Of course I would try them on before buying, but as an outlet item they are not in any store.
My suggestion is if your feet are normal or wide, look at a different boot.
