Comments about MSR Lightning Ascent 25 Snowshoes - Women's:
I have the MSR Lightning Ascent 25s, and my wife has these. We used them during our recent 5-day trip to Yosemite National Park. We snoweshoed 4 days of our 5 day trip with great results.
they provided excellent traction going both uphill and downhill. During our trip we got nearly 6 inches of new powder up in the mountains. We had deep powder conditions up in the mountains and icy conditions down in the valley. The snowshoes handled both equally well.
The only possible con to them is the entry. Not easy with cold hands or thick gloves.
Even so, I strongly recommend them.

snow shoes need easy, strong buckles. Ratchet ones are better.

Comments about MSR Lightning Ascent 25 Snowshoes - Women's:
The MSR Lightning Ascent snowshoes are excellent. I have been a backcountry skier for over 25 years and an REI member for almost 40 years. My girlfriend does not ski so we are snowshoeing together.
I got the MSR Lightning Ascent as a replacement for another manufacturer's top-of-the-line, mountaineering-class snowshoe which was showing noticable wear at the binding-frame connection after only a few full days of use due to poor design. This would have eventually lead to a critical equipment failure which in the backcountry in winter is bad. The REI sales person recommended the MSR Lightning Ascents as a replacement.
The MSR Lightning Ascents are very light and have a KIS (keep it simple) construction. They grip very well when climbing, descending, and traversing on hard slabs yet you can still slide/ski going downhill in softer snow if you unweight. The "televator" heel lifts are a must for steep climbs just like on my skis. Some people have complained about the 4 straps per binding, but I found them easy to take on and off.
My only complaint is that myself and 2 friends have observed some wear on the inside edge of the decking forward of the binding. This is easily fixed by shinging the edge of decking with a candle. Perhaps MSR should already do this shinging.
Still, skiing is more fun that snowshoeing.

Comments about MSR Lightning Ascent 25 Snowshoes - Women's:
I am new to snowshoeing so I looked for a pair that were made specifically for women and were a bit narrower so walking would be more natural than being in a wider snowshoe which is better for a man's stride. I used the shoes on on ice/snow with a varied terrain and had no problem at all climbing and descending hills. These out performed a tubular pair of shoes that a friend of mine had on and she is a more experienced snowshoer. I am very happy with the performance.

Comments about MSR Lightning Ascent 25 Snowshoes - Women's:
When I put my hiking gear on I weighed over the 180 lb mark. If I bought the 22 inch snowshoes (weight load up to 180 lbs) I would need to purchase the floats to accomodate my weight. The combo of the 22 in and floats would have cost more than the 25 in snowshoes. I bought the 25 in snowshoes(weight load 120-210 lbs) and am very happy about the choice. My only problem was that the universal strap keeper would not keep the end of the toe strap in place, the end of the strap would slip out and flap around even though the strap remained buckled. I went purchased a pack of MSR strap keepers and threaded one on the strap the opposite direction....problem solved!

Comments about MSR Lightning Ascent 25 Snowshoes - Women's:
we rented theses and went on a 5 miler, tried them out on steeps, seemed to work perfect, have heard that the entry and exit with gloves on is hard? the guy told us to put the heel strap on first, then the three boot straps.that seemed to work perfect, one thing we did is get some winter boots we use just for snow shoeing, just like other winter sports.skiing, cross country ect. we have both bought a pair now and love them. i would not even look at another brand. if you want to get into snowshoeing take some time and get the right boots.200-600 grams of thinsilate
