Comments about K2 Automatic Ski Poles - Men's:
I bought this in a rush to replace a broken pole (Swix Techlite, also a cheapie pole). As a disclaimer, I got them a size too large so I can't comment on their overall performance, but I will make a couple observations.
First, the grip is nice - it fits my hand nicely and has a soft feel to it. However, the thing that bugged me is that the shaft vibrates with a 'heavy' feeling (like a bass drum instead of a hi-hat) and the vibration tends to stick around for a while instead of immediately dampening out. This made my pole plants feel unreliable, and I didn't like it at all.
My first thought was that it's because it's a long pole, but the old Swix poles were the same length (another interesting point - the old poles didn't feel too long though they were the same length), and I never noticed the feeling.
I took the poles back to exchange down a size, and while I was there I did a comparison against the other $20-30 poles on the rack. It was hard to make a concrete conclusion, but it did seem that the Scott Decree and Rossignol (don't remember the model) poles vibrated with a higher pitch and dampened sooner than the K2. The difference was more pronounced when holding the poles by the straps and 'jangling' them up and down.
In any case, I ended up trading down to the Scott poles, because even though the K2's are more expensive and I didn't get the price difference back, the vibration in the K2 was a deal breaker for me.
