Comments about Camp Chef Barbecue Grill Box with Lid - Single Burner:
I purchased this unit as an addition to my camp Chef 2 burner stove. It fits well except for the centering of the burner and the grill. Not sure that was completely thought through. They advertise there are no hot spots because of their diffuser plate. The lower left quadrant is a hot spot. If you are cooking burgers or anything else greasy, prepare for the grease to run and drip on your stove and drip onto the ground in each corner. Make sure nothing is under your stove.
A lot of this could have been avoided had the engineers at Camp Chef put a little more thought into it. Being an engineer myself, I would have had the diffuser plate welded all the way around and not just spot welded in a few places. I would have drilled on hole in each end of the lowest point of the plate, just away from the frame of the stove to allow it to drip clear of everything.
The paint quality of the box itself is poor. I don't see it lasting long. Another thing I'd like to pick apart is the seal of the lid. It's non-existent. If you have a flare up, you will be hard pressed to smother it out with the lid. This can be remedied by going to a Big Green Egg dealer and picking up some felt gasket material. Glue it on and you have a lid that seals well.
All in all, it cooks pretty good. I made some killer fajitas on it this last weekend. Don't get me wrong with the nit picking, that's what I do. For what it is, it performs ok. It's very handy. I'll use it until the base rots out from under it, then I'll build a base to my standards and use the cast iron grill and the top.
Would I buy another one? Probably not. I'll build my own. If I couldn't build my own, yes, I'd buy another. Would I recommend it to others? Yes, but only after telling them that this is not the pinnacle of grills.
Another word of advice is to buy the carry bag. It's less than $20 and will keep your messes to a minimum during transport.
