Comments about K2 LockJaw Carbon/Alu Probe Ski Poles - Pair:

I used a nearly-identical model (different coloring) during the 2011-2012 ski season, skiing in-bounds in New Mexico, Colorado, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. I had purchased these poles to replace a cheap pair that had been bent.

The adjustability is great because you can experiment with lengths for different conditions--I use the classic 90-degree elbow length if I'm with my young son on easy slopes, where I often need to stand around or push, and I shorten them up by 5cm in the moguls or on steep/fast runs.

On a long traverse across a steep slope, you can make the downhill pole longer than the uphill one for greater comfort.

During transport you can shorten them up to their minimum length so they are less cumbersome than regular poles.

The locking mechanism is easy to adjust, even with gloves on, and locks securely. However, I have stopped using my poles to push down on my binding heel release, just in case that would shorten the life of the mechanism.

My poles came with two pairs of baskets, for powder and groomers. I leave the powder ones on full time.

The grips are comfortable, and the straps are long enough to be used in both positions (inserting hand down through the strap loop onto the grip, or up through the loop and onto both the loop and the strap, which is my preference). The grips are marked Left and Right, but the difference is so slight that I don't bother to check before grabbing them.

The only down side: these poles are so great that I am afraid to have them stolen if I leave them outside the lodge when I go in for lunch! I collapse them and bring them inside.
