cool backpack, got it on sale at my local rei. used it all last ski season. looks cool on the slopes, small enough to wear comfortably on the lift while still carrying what i need (water bladder, gloves, mask, lunch, goggles, snacks, helmet, and a couple other random things). Ive taken this backpack through powder, park, and everything in between. its got a low profile which i like, it looks cool and does what i need it to. i bought this pack because i really liked the fact that it could carry my skis, it does carry the skis like it says but is a little inconvenient for carrying them short distances or taking them on a bus. the ski carrying system is good and holds the skis securely but getting them on it and taking the off takes a little bit of time. its not the biggest pack in the world but carries enough for a comfortable DAY in the backcountry, park, trees, or wherever u like to ski. fastens down securely to your body with with a chest and wast strap. the shoulder strap has a zipaway cover to protect ur waterbladder hose which is nice becuase it keeps it from freezing. also all the zippers except for i think two have little tabs i guess you could call them, tied onto them so it is easy to access the main compartment even if your are wearing bulky gloves.

I bought this pack for my first season off piste with some very experienced friends. So far I have only packed, unpacked and worn it around the yard, breaking in the straps. I lost my I-pod so I put the I-pad in it with some books for weight and set off to mow the lawn. This pack stayed tight and stable even when I was pull starting the mower, trimming shrubs, raking leaves, etc. If it performs half as well on the mountain, as I expect it will, I will be satisfied. If I had more money to spend, I might have bought a little larger pack but, I think this one is going to be great for day trips in the BC and the groomers.

DaKine makes the best packs around for winter sports, period. I have been skiing with the Heli-Pro for 10 years now, and am on my second one. The one disadvantage of the Heli-pro is that it is a little bulky. When I saw the smaller version here, I grabbed one.

For me, a skier, I love the carrying attachments for the bag. Each version I have bought has improved the attachment points, and this one is the best so far. There is a hidden strap at the top of the bag behind a zipper, so the strap is always there (no losing it) but tucked away when you don't need it. On the bottom is a retractable steel cable, again retractable and hidden. So you can put the bottom of your skis in the loop and clip the strap around the top, and your skis go on you back. Use this for the walk from the parking lot, the long hike to the condo, or walking across the snow bridge to ski the Vallee Blanc, all three uses I have done.

When the skis are not attached, pull everything back and there is nothing to snag on a chair lift or a tree branch bashing through the woods.

There is an internal hydration sleeve to your water bladder does not bang around, and then the tube is threaded through the shoulder strap to a zippered compartment. It adds a little insulation and keeps it from breaking free of a clip or snagging on anything. You need to provide your own bladder, but I have 1 or 2 of those, so I don' mind.
